An Independent Press in the USA?

John Swinton, called by his peers "The Dean of his Profession", was the former Chief of Staff for the New York Times. He was asked to give a toast before the New York Press Club in 1953. He is quoted as follows:

"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar weekly salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

RICHARD M. COHAN, Senior Producer of CBS political news said: "We are going to impose OUR AGENDA on the coverage by dealing with issues and subjects that WE choose to deal with."

RICHARD SALANT, former President of CBS News stated: "Our job is to give people not what they want, but what WE decide they ought to have."

What is their "agenda"? What type of "news" do they believe we, the American people, - THE COMMON HERD, "...OUGHT to have?" Here is the answer:

NORMAN THOMAS - For many years the U.S. Socialist Presidential candidate proclaimed: "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of "liberalism" they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing what happened."

The world, finally including even the balky American public, is "being rapidly educated into overcoming limited patriotism" and accepting "United Nations solutions to common global problems," said Henry Kissinger.

At a Bilderberg conference, participants expressed satisfaction with progress toward world government on two fronts:

Kissinger reported on a shocking speech made by UN Secretary General Butrous Ghali to the American Association of Newspaper Publishers at UN headquarters in New York in early May. The publishers' newspapers covered up the story.

The UN Security Council must have a permanent force that can be deployed anywhere in the world, instantly, to "protect the peace" and "ensure human rights" the secretary-general told the newspaper publishers.

U.N. TO INVADE U.S.

This force must be allowed to intervene "at the local and community levels," the UN leader told the American publishers.

What is "especially gratifying," Kissinger said, "is that the publishers showed no reservations about the prospects of UN forces landing in the United States and imposing the UN's will."

Here in southern New Mexico, the liberal so-called "newspapers" that are "educating us into overcoming limited patriotism" and accepting "United Nations solutions to common global problems" are The Sun News and The Bulletin.

I worked for several years for The Courier, a weekly paper that supported the common working people of our area -- the farmers, ranchers, miners, and loggers. We made it a practice to print ALL the Letters to the Editor we received, because we believed in hearing diverse opinion, and not censoring our readers viewpoints.

This is quite unlike the apparent policies of The Sun News and The Bulletin. They are forever printing the viewpoints of One Worlders and Environ-mentalists, but rarely allow the other side a voice.

For example, several years ago The Sun News ran an editoral entitled "Refute nutty theories with factual responses" (May 9, 1995). It began, "Never let the lack of a few facts interfere with a good conspiracy theory," and went on to expound on how all those who believed in Federal involvement in the Oklahoma City bombing, Black Helicopters, government concentration camps, and a conspiracy to implement a One World Government were all delusional, nutty conspiracy theorists, showing "how vital a good education and knowledge of how government works are..."

Exactly, it is precisely because we have educated ourselves, and understand how government truely works that we DO believe such things are possible.

The conclusion of the article was that such theories should be answered factually, "to prevent them from festering into the sick beliefs that lead the easily influenced..."

Talk about "the easily influenced" !!! This editor actually quotes an ATF official concerning the OK City bombing and Waco, as though the ATF was a neutral, objective source of information. "Paranoid fantasy," sez he.

As for the "nutty theory" of Black Helicopters, I personally brought to the offices of The Sun News a "factual response" in the form of a fax received at The Courier offices. A reader in the Springerville area of Arizona wrote to tell us of a Black, Unmarked Helicopter that landed in the yard of their ranch-house (though they had a landing strip that could have been used). Out jumped Federal agents, who would not identify themselves.

I never heard from The Sun News. The fax was never printed. End of story.

Several times I have sent Letters to the Editor refuting one-sided propaganda, to both The Sun News and The Bulletin. Never an acknowledgement or response, never does it show up in their "newspapers." Apparently it does not fit in with "their agenda" to print the other side of an issue.

The Bulletin features a weekly column by local "Environ-mentalist" Kevin Bixby, who favors Mexican Wolf introduction into the Southwest, recycling, Rio Grande River "restoration," etc. etc.

I have met Mr. Bixby, and find that he is willing to listen to the other side; even going so far as to have guest speakers from the ranching community at his "Southwest Environmental Center."

Apparently the same cannot be said for The Bulletin. After a particularly galling column by Bixby on the so-called dangers of Global Warming, I sent The Bulletin my internet article on The Global Warming Hoax. Naturally I did not hear from them, they did not print it, and the issue does not exist as far as they are concerned. Ignore the truth and it will go away, according to the Liberals.

Just today (Nov. 15, 97), The Sun News ran a front-page article re-printed from The New York Times on how disappointed the UN and the European Union were that Congress had not approved payment of $1 billion in "dues owed" to the UN. Missing from the article was the fact that the General Accounting Office has determined that the US has contributed so much to "peace-keeping" operations and such, that the UN OWES US money.

This practice of the media is the very essense of propaganda... to tell only one side of the story, to present just one side of an issue, and ignore any facts or evidence that might interfere with their "slant" on the news.

When the media reports only one side of an issue, it is self-evident that they have "an agenda" that they wish to push upon their audience. The question is: Why do they so willingly participate in the destruction of our country, our values, our culture?

Why are they so eager to join in a New World Order, which will be governed by the Rich and Elite, when they will probably be the first to be eliminated? There will be little need for "News" organizations and "Environ-mentalists" when the Internationalists have achieved their ends. Once we "stubborn Americans" are "properly conditioned" and the UN can "impose it's will" without resistence from an armed, informed population, the propaganda of the so-called "News Media" and the Environ-mental Movement will no longer be needed.

See you in those delusional, "nutty" concentration camps, fellas.
