REMOVING TEXT AND IMAGES FROM THE INTERNET Have you wondered how to get an image off an internet site? Or how to save text? Here is a brief how-to to get you started. These procedures will work pretty much the same way in saving email or attachments to email. HOW TO SAVE AN IMAGE FROM AN INTERNET SITE There are two ways to "borrow" a picture from someone else's page. You can link directly to their image (not recommended), or you can copy their picture for your own use. NOTE: Please be respectful and courteous when borrowing images. An artist's work is copyrighted as soon as it's finished so, you're breaking copyright laws by "stealing" someone's images. Most pages will have a way to send mail to the page's author. Most people will be glad to let you use their work, but you should always ask first! * * * LINKING TO AN IMAGE: RIGHT click on the image and select "COPY IMAGE LOCATION" from the drop down menu. The URL of the image will be saved and can be pasted to notepad or other text document. The address will resemble this: http://zianet.com/Wes/koko-2.gif To display the image include the link in an HTML command like this: NOTE: It's not wise to link to someone's image. First, it's slow having to go hunting across the net for an image as opposed to getting it off the server. Second, if the person moves, deletes or renames the image, you're stuck. On the other hand if you don't have a homepage of your own to put the image you will not be able to display it in chatrooms. * * * COPYING AN IMAGE: RIGHT click on it and select "SAVE IMAGE AS" from the drop down menu. You'll be prompted for a name and format to use (it's advisable to use existing name/format if possible) and the place (folder) on your computer to save it. When you have specified these details, click on SAVE and you have the image on your disk. HOW DO I GET TEXT FROM A SITE? To capture text highlight it with your cursor and use the menu for EDIT/Copy or the shortcut keys, CTRL-C. This puts it in your system ClipBoard and it can be pasted to your computer on a notepad or any text document by the menu EDIT/Paste or shortcut keys, CTRL-V. HOW DO I USE A BACKGROUND FROM SOMEONE ELSE'S PAGE? RIGHT click anywhere on the background and choose SAVE BACKGROUND AS from the drop down menu. You'll be prompted for a name and format to use (use existing name/format if possible) and the place (folder) on your computer to save it. Click on SAVE and you have the background pattern on your disk. NOTE: Backgrounds are actually small quadrilateral figures that are repeated as many times horizontally and vertically as necessary to cover the screen.
