The following breif comments are of other WHEELER trees left in our Guestbook by visitors linked with the state of Maine; Abbr. ME, Me.. A state of the northeast United States. It was admitted as the 23rd state in 1820. First explored by Europeans in 1602, the region was annexed by Massachusetts in 1652. Maine's northern boundary with New Brunswick was settled by a treaty with Great Britain in 1842. Augusta is the capital and Portland the largest city. Population, 1,233,223. Comments: Iam new at this family history stuff & I'm looking for some help with my Wheeler line. I am looking for the family members of my ggf Albert O. WHEELER. The only thing I have is he m Annie R. WHITTEMORE 1/1/1896 in Paris Maine. Annie (b in Paris, Maine May 1877 & d in South Portland, Maine Sept 2, 1972 ) was a life long member of the South Paris Grange. She & Albert had 2 children - Albert H. WHEELER & Marion E WHEELER WALKER. Annie married a second time on Aug.21, 1917 to Frank S. DUDLEY. They had no children . Any info on this Wheeler line would be appreciated. He died there apparently and she and her kids moved to Osage Co, MO. Her oldest dau Lydia Ann POWERS married Robert MOORE. Dolly m2 a CRUTSINGER in later years after Alex died... Seeking the ancestry of John WHEELER, born 14 May 1750, died 23 Apr 1843, buried Chesterville, Maine. The census tracks John WHEELER to Chester, Maine (1800) and Wilton, Maine (1820-1840). In the 1840 census he is shown as age 90, pensioner, in the household of Jesse HISCOCK, his son in law.

This John WHEELER does not seem to appear in _History of the Wheeler Family in America_ by Albert Gallatin Wheeler (1914).

In the Revolutionary War, in Sep 1777, John WHEELER shipped as a quartermaster on the Continental Ship of War RANGER under the command of Captain John Paul JONES.

He married first, circa 1776 at York, Maine, Mary INGRAHAM, daughter of Edward and Lydia (HOLT) INGRAHAM. By 1820, he had a second wife Betsey -----.
