What little information I have is contradictory, so I'm not sure exactly where to look. Maybe someone can help. My information comes from my great grandfather (Wilford S. SLOCUM) obituary and the 1850 census for Forest County, Pennsylvania. Here is what I have:
Wilford S. SLOCUM b. 8-5-1834, Jamestown NY d. 2-21-1921, Scotch Hill, Clarion Co., PA. Parents are John and Martha (WHEELER) SLOCUM.
1850 Barnett Township, Forest Co., PA Josish SLOCUM 50 M laborer NY Adorothy SLOCUM 50 F Conn DeLors SLOCUM 20 M laborer NY Emory SLOCUM 15 M NY Wilford SLOCUM 13 M NY Matlida SLOCUM 9 F NY Alden SLOCUM 7 M NYWilford's obituary also mentions that he is a full cousin of the late N. P. WHEELER of Endeavor, PA. I haven't been able to get to Forest Co. yet to see if I can find any more information than what I have. I have hit a brick wall on the SLOCUM side, maybe I can find an answer on the WHEELER side. Thank you for any information, however small. Sue LEWELLYN clady@bedford.net

Anyway, to whom am I writing? I am descended from Joseph WHEELER who came to the Wyoming Valley in the 1760's. He is found in the records of the Susquehanna Company. He seems to have bought land early with the Susquehanna Company, but soon seems to be affiliated with the Pennamites.
