Notes for JUBILEE (JUBE) WHEELER:
Jubilee served under Govenor Sam Houston in the Militia of Tennessee,
taking his oath as Captain, on November 25, 1830. The time frame fits
right in the midst of the Colonists and Indian warfare which was at its
peak at about that time. The Cherokee Trail of Tears to Oklahoma was
just a few years after Jubilee's commission date and he may even have
participated in the removal of the Cherokee Indian Nation from Tennessee,
the Carolinas, and Georgia area. The removal took place prior to 1840.

(XLI)Subject: Thomas W. WHEELER,1833 VA Date: Wed, 22 Apr 1998 10:51:34 -0400 From: H. L. Nolen hnolen@swva.net Organization: SWVA.Net

My name is H. L. Nolen and I live in southern Virginia. My mother was Laura FOUTZ, her mother was Terressa Mae WHEELER. Terressa's father was John Stephen WHEELER (b 4/24/1859 - lived and died in Bedford County, Va. John m Lucy E. FORE) John's father was Thomas W. WHEELER (b abt 1833 in Bedford Co. Va. Thomas m Sarah E. WALDRON 7/14/1852 in Bedford Co. Va.)

My questions are these: A Thomas WHEELER shows up in Bedford County, Va. (born: abt 1736) and a Gabriel WHEELER (born: abt 1783 and is the son of Thomas.) Gabriel m Rhoda BANDY.

I am guessing that my Thomas W. WHEELER is either a son of or a nephew of this Gabriel WHEELER, but I cannot link for sure. Gabriel WHEELER later had a son named Gabriel WHEELER, Jr. and he was b abt 1824. Gabriel, Jr's birth date and my Thomas W. Wheeler's birth date are close enough for them to have been brothers, but as I said. I cannot prove this.

I know from what I have read on the Wheeler Geneology Home Page that several others and possible you have done research back to and including the Bedford County, VA. WHEELER.

I am hoping you can help me tie these loose ends together. Thanks in advance, H. L. Nolen hnolen@swva.net

Date: Sun, 6 Apr 97 03:03:14 UT
From: Rosa Truhe truhe@msn.com

I am searching for the parents of Greenville Henry WHEELER who was born 22 Mar 1822 in Halifax County, VA. The next records I can find for him are in his widows Mexican War Pension File. He mustered in 28 May, 1846 in Capt. Cheatam's Co., 1 Reg't Tennessee Inf. later known as Co. E, 1 Reg't Tenn. Inf. He enlisted for a second time 4 Mar 1848 in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN and was assigned to the 3rd Regiment of U.S. Dragoons. I can find no record of him between 1822 and 1846. No family matches the description in this time frame in VA.

He married Mary HARBIN 24 Feb 1850 in Lawrence Co., IL and is listed in the 1850 Census in the household next to his father-in-law, Joshua HARBIN. In 1859 he is shown on a tax roll in Hempstead, Austin Co. (now in Waller Co.) TX. He is found there until his death 4 Sep 1875 or 1876. He is buried in Hempstead next to his widow, mother-in-law, and several children.

Any help would be appreciated. I would be happy to exchange info related to this family. Rosa Truhe truhe@msn.com

My father was John WHEELER m. Irene MORRIS. His father and mother was Howard Booker and Sudie Bennett WHEELER of Keene, VA. My deceased dad's last brother Herbert Booker just recently died in 1996 and he was married to Judy PACE of Charlottesville, VA. They had one son whose name is Cary. My dad John WHEELER had two sons which are still living the oldest is John Jr. and myself Donald Lee. My dad had a brother Bill WHEELER who died many years ago and left a wife (Kitty) and two sons Michael and Patrick .The last time I heard from them about 30 years ago they lived around Laural, Maryland. Our family has just about died out and if anyone could help in finding the family of Michael or Pat. I would be very thankful !

I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information on various Wheelers, but am having trouble matching any of them up with my Wheeler family, probably in part because I don't have a lot of info and there seem to have been lots of William Wheelers! Here is my Wheeler family, in brief:

William WHEELER b. 1670, married Susannah PARSONS or Susannah DRUMMOND. May have been born in England, may have been born in VA (I've heard two different stories) Had three sons (William, John, Richard) Then remarried Martha WEST and had nine more children)

Richard was b. 1697/98 and married Rebecca Davis FRIZZELL and had two children: Drummond and Susannah.

Drummond b. 1726, married Jean ?. and had 11 children: (Richard, William, Edward, Elizabeth, Drummond, Mary, Nathan, Benjamin, Thomas, John and William)

Benjamin C was b. 1769 and married Penelope SPENCER and had 5 children: (William Henry Edward, Richard Drummond, John A., Benjamin Sidney Smith and Samuel Alfred)

Benjamin Sidney Smith b. 1810, married Cassey McKEY and had four children ( William Henry, John Valentine, Mary Elizabeth and Lucy Caroline)

John Valentine b. 1852 married Nancy Ann RODEN and had 8 children: (William Houston, Sidney Paul, Billie Ann, Maud, Myra Jane, John Henry, Ollie Bell and an unnamed baby).

Ollie Bell b. 1891 married Dombey Otto BEENE and had 3 children: (Patrick Henry, Lucille Nancy and Bessie Kate - my grandmother).

At some point the family moved to TX from VA, but I don't know when!

I would appreciate any help anyone has in filling out the information on this family, especially on the first William! Thanks, Becky Novy
