The following obituary transcription, from the April 18, 1973 issue of the Roswell NM Daily Record, was provided by Marshall R. Wheeler of Austin, TX while working on the descendents of James Richard Wheeler:

Funeral services will be conducted on 4 p.m. Monday from Ballard Chapel for Gen C. Wheeler, 80, who resided in East Grand Plains, Route 2, Box 119A. The Rev. Charles Fullinwider, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of oDexter, will officiate. Special music will be provided by soloist Mrs. Joe Tyner, accompanied by Mrs. Geraldine Barbee.

Mr. Wheeler died at 8 a.m. Friday in St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, TX following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1892, in Goodland, Kan. to James S. and Eva Ross Wheeler.

He was married May 9, 1917, to Alta V. Sterrett in the old Sterrett home north of LDexter. Mr. Wheeler moved to Roswell in 1908 and was active in farming and ranching in the East Grand Plains area for approximately 50 years. He was also active in real estate some 15 years prior to his retirement. He served on the board of education for the East Grand Plains school in the early 1930's and served on the county board of education from 1955 - 1965.

He was a member of the Roswell Lodge NO. 18 AF and AM., York Rite Mosonic Bodies, Roswell Shrine Club, Ballut Abrad Shrine of Albuquerque and East Grand Plains Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Clarence Wheeler of Roswell, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Huber of Santa Fe and Mrs. Edward (Evelyn) Hobson of Roswell, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include three brother, Earl Wheeler of El Paso, TX, Neil Wheeler of Modesto, CA, and Verne Wheeler of Tularosa; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Virgil Grantham, Smith Peters, Ellis Whitney, Carrol Newsome, Max Littell and Berry Heine.
