Administration Ministry Team

Minutes for meeting of October 12, 2010

Present:  Carl Connor, Mike Bartholomew Absent: Joan Rawson, Gene Christensen; Mel Parish; Ken Osborne

Meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum.

In the absence of a meeting Carl & Mike discussed the following issues that were on the agenda, but took no action,

 1.  The following request from Lloyd Kirschenmann to ask the congregation to donate funds to support La Casita:

"Linda; La Casita is in dire straights right now and could use some help. would it be possible to send out a general email to the congregation explaining the situation and ask for donations of any amount people can afford? If we can't come up with about $6,000 total from all sources soon, we'll have to close it down. It's just starting to become an effective outreach under Manny, but we've run out of money.

How do we go about asking the congregation to donate $5.00, $10, $25, even $50 or more if they can? Sonoma Springs Deacons are putting together a donation as well as a charity in El Paso. It would be great if we could do the same.

Thanks, Lloyd"

I have talked with Lloyd about this and explained the timeline for approval and then if approved, he can make a "Minute for Mission" presentation to the congregation.  I recommend we approve his request and present it to the Session next week with our recommendation to approve the request. If the Session approves the request, Lloyd can do his Minute for Mission on Sunday, 10/24.  Please respond ASAP.

2.  Lon Anderson has submitted the following requests for the Boy Scouts:

Subject: Boy Scout fundraiser and toy drive

Hi Linda,

Please forward the following two items for approval to the admin team.

1.  Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast fundraiser
What:  Raise funds for summer camp, awards, and camping equipment
When:  Nov 21, 7 AM - 10:30 AM
Where:  Watkins Hall
How: We do this in conjunction with Kiwanis, who do this regularly for various groups.  Kiwanis cook, boys scouts serve food.
Cost: $5 donation

2.  Boy Scouts Christmas Toy Drive
What:  Deliver toys and activities to area hospitals
When:  Collection takes place during month of November
Where:  Collection box at entrance to Church
How:  Boys Scouts pick up donated gifts and deliver
Cost:  Donations of new, unwrapped toys

All, We have approved the use of our facilities for the Boy Scouts - Kiwanis Breakfast fund raiser in the past with the understanding that they accept donations and not a breakfast fee.  I recommend that we approve the Boy Scout's breakfast fundraiser as long as there is no scheduling conflict and all funds raised are donations.

Lon's second request is a little more difficult, since it could possibly impact the funding support that the Deacons anticipate for their Hospice Christmas Basket fund raising drive by making members choose which charitable drive is going to get their support.  In some cases they may elect to split their giving between the two charity efforts.  I recommend that we delay any action on this request until we get some feedback from the Deacons.  I will forward your decision and any comments to Rusty so that they can discuss it at their meeting on 10/21 and then give us some feedback

Next Admin Team meeting is October 12, 2010, at 7 PM.
