MINUTES OF MEETING

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS TEAM MINISTRY

September 14, 2010

Members present:  Bill Brady, Jerry Grandle, Ralph Miller, Charlie Yaryan

 Members Excused:  Debbie Austin, Austin Breck, and Bob Paul

 The meeting was opened with prayer at 7 PM.

 Topics discussed:

 

• Update on Bus Garage – work items still to be accomplished are:  auto garage door opener, seal base of structure against rain runoff, install lights and outlets, install church logos on the bus.

 

• Changes in employment and work assignments – B & G determined that we need handy-man skills available during the week with an emphasis on minor repair and facility upkeep, along with minor janitorial activities needed to supplement the weekly janitorial service for which we contract.  Thus we eliminated the janitorial position which was previously staffed by Mike McClanahan and developed a “Church Handy-man position”.  We have hired Randy Calkins to fill that assignment.  Mike will continue to provide Sunday Sexton services.  The job descriptions are attached.  Both men will be available for support of church activities outside of their assigned hours, as needed.

 

• Budget – B & G is on target

 

• Sanctuary Carpet – the following considerations were discussed:

1.      The carpet in the Sanctuary is the original carpet from 1965.

2.      The floor has sunk in multiple places causing safety problems.

3.      The carpet is frayed and stained in multiple places.

4.      Some feel that the carpet color is outdated and unattractive.

5.      Repair of the floor and replacement of the carpet will cost $14,000.00 to $16,000.00, based on an estimate from Malooly’s Carpet.

 Motion:  Session requests that Building and Grounds committee explore replacement of the carpet in the Sanctuary, develop an action plan and bring that plan to the Session for consideration at the October meeting.

            This plan should include:

1.      Scope of work and cost

2.      Plan to select carpet, color and quality

3.      Completion date, with a goal for 12/15/10

4.      Payment plan
