MINUTES OF MEETING
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS TEAM MINISTRY
December
14, 2010
The meeting was opened at 7:00 PM.
Members present
were: Charlie Yaryan, Bill Brady, and Jerry Grandle. Also in attendance was
Bob Paul, member at large. Excused were: Austin Breck, Ralph Miller and
Deborah Austin.
Old Business
- There was general agreement with the idea that we
should adopt a program to invest our Children’s Garden income now that
our debt is nearly eliminated. The committee endorsed a policy to save
our incoming money for needs that experience tells us will be urgent and
inevitable. A recommendation will be made to the session.
- Charlie was recognized with gratitude for his
leadership and the accomplishments of the Buildings and grounds ministry
during his tenure.
- The faithful service of Deacon Ralph Miller was
gratefully recognized.
- Semper Fidelis, Ralph and Charlie!
New Business
- Charlie noted that migrants/vagrants have set up
camp in the shelter provided by the walls of the old and new garages. We
will construct fences and gates to close off the areas between the
structures. Costs will be minimized by labor contributions by the
committee.
- It was decided that the columbarium needed a
little more isolation as a sacred place. A low concrete and steel fence
will be built along the the sidewalk outside the sanctuary and the
columbarium. This will be coordinated with our professional columbarium
design team.
- There was an unsuccessful attempt to break into
the sanctuary. Some damage was sustained and is being repaired. The
damage was not sufficient for our insurance coverage to kick in.
- The Christian education instructions/directions
posted outside gates of Jones Hall have not been kept current and will
be removed.
- We plan to initiate and to identify a “safe
sanctuary” program in January. Hazards and unsafe conditions will be
identified and rectified. Members will be educated on the importance of
this program to the safety of the congregation.
The meeting was
closed in prayer and adjourned at 7:30 PM.
Respectfully
submitted by Bob Paul.
