Building and Grounds Minutes

Dennis Thomas, our new moderator,   opened the meeting at about 7 PM.  Additional members present were Eddie Armendariz, Bill Haynes, Ed Green and Roger Sellers.

 The Columbarium Committee rep, Carl Conner, briefed us on the latest status. They have changed their concept to a canvas sail canopy. The daughter of Alex and Majorie Burr is helping them with the design. No time estimates for completion were available. This concept seems to make sense. The prime objective is shade and coolness, on hot, sunny, days.  Cost of the project is estimated to be under $4000 which is to be covered by a concerned church member.

The playground fencing was discussed. The fence is installed and is to be painted. A problem with the new sections was found. It is difficult to remove the oil that coats new fencing. Janet Loman continues to monitor the playground status.

Many of the green chairs in Jones Hall were missing caps in several different spots. Steve Johnson found a source for replacements; they were received and installed by our experts.

A ballast for a small sanctuary light was received and Steve Johnson is working on installation. The larger light problem still has not been resolved. A problem with watering pine trees bordering our land to the North was discussed. Many of the trees are in poor condition. Dennis will investigate the situation. We also discussed some problems with tile floor in hallways in Watkins Hall. Tiles are rising and breaking. It appears that matching the tile exactly is not an option. Dennis is to check with local dealers.
