Review and Approval of Last Meeting Minutes

Minutes approved as read. Martha Mitchell will take minutes for this meeting. Derek Merchant will take minutes for minutes starting with the Nov, 2010 minutes.

Presentation from church website committee (Dick Dale): Drafts of front page of church website distributed. Contributions from committee on content for the Christian Education page were requested. Draft is located at http://firspreslc.org/burr . Can provide feedback to rhdale@comcast.net by Oct 28.

 Ministry Team Reports:

 Budget:

Budget for Christian Education and Salt and Light were reviewed. Question regarding advertising line item has been resolved. Lent materials line item needs to be moved to Advent. There needs to be a line item on the Salt and Light transaction report for fall tuition. Would be very helpful to show monthly carryover, not simply monthly transactions (i.e. what is available to spend) on reports. For next year need to consider including budget items for background checks and Safe Sanctuaries training.

 Salt and Light and VBS:

Kristine Lambert provided a report of the first 5 nights of Salt and Light. She has started preparing a monthly newsletter for distribution to the parents. Nine new students have been attending. She is working on aligning the theme of the curriculum with the dinner theme. There are concerns about overcrowding for some of the classes. She is working on a better way to reconcile class head counts with dinner counts (more at dinner than currently can be accounted for by students, table parents and kitchen crews).

 Sunday School and Church Classes:

Susan Grandle is continuing to staff elementary Sunday School teachers.  Adult Sunday school is continuing with Blaine Goss and Dick Dale.

 Youth:

Mark submitted a calendar for the year for youth events. The youth will be serving refreshments for the Millers’ 5oth anniversary after church Oct 17th. Oct. 16th is the youth garage sale. Oct 31st is Trunk or Treat. For November, planning a church clean-up day on Nov 13th. Nov 14 the youth would like to have a youth team sale, which Mark will coordinate, during the Thanksgiving dinner at church. Nov 19-21 the youth plan to go to the Presbyterian Youth Retreat at Fort Lone Tree in Capitan. Mark attended the National Youth Workers Convention in San Diego last weekend.

 Old Business:

Bibles were distributed in church on September 26th.  Three bibles are yet to be picked up (they are in Kristine’s office) and there is one bible with a blank nameplate. CE signup for continues support with cleaning the Children’s Garden rooms after Sunday Services.

 New Business:

Advent devotionals will be handed out at Salt and Light on Nov 17, and will be handed out during the worship service beginning Nov 21. An item needs to be written for the Good News about the Advent Devotionals.

Review of safety procedures, and concerns over the lack of written protocols, has led Christian Education to move forward with scheduling a Safe Sanctuaries training, which would include definitions of who needs to participate in the training, screening procedures, supervision, reporting and a response plan. Kristine has participated in this training multiple times. Kristine will check with the presenter to find dates that will work for our church (3 hours/training, often offered on a Sunday after worship and perhaps a Monday morning). The cost to Christian Education will be travel from Santa Fe plus hotel.

Closing: The meeting was closed with prayer by Mark at 8:10 PM.

Next Meeting: November 9, 2010 at 6:15 PM in Jones Hall.
