Christian Education Ministry Team Minutes
Nov. 10, 2015
Attended:
Scott Burns, Nancy Cowan, Susan Grandle, Anna Suggs, Greg
Temple
Opening
devotion was given by Susan Grandle.
Last
meetings minutes were reviewed and approved.
Greg
provided the team with a written report to the team in
advance. Plans are being made for the Summer Mission
Trip July 9-17, 2016 to South Dakota. Current costs
are estimated to be $500 per person. Expected family
contribution is $100 with the remainder to be fundraising
and budget allowances. A down payment has been sent to
secure 35 slots. The CE Ministry team is grateful to
the Session for the generous line item in the church budget
to help with mission trips.
Sunday
school for all ages was discussed. Blaine Goss and his
class has joined the study of Ephesians being led by Larry
Hicks. Elementary teachers are scheduled through the
rest of the year. Youth Sunday school class attendance
was discussed. Students attending Faith & Fellowship
are not promptly going to class. It has been the
teacher’s discretion whether to start class at 9:00 am or
wait until the youth who attend Faith & Fellowship arrive
after 9:30. Regardless class ends at 10:20.
Under new
business the team discussed Vacation Bible School for summer
2016. Curriculum will be from our stock of the past
VBS. Team members were encouraged to think about what
is the purpose of VBS and how can we design it to match that
purpose. The pros and cons of the last two years of
VBS were discussed. Nancy recommended we seek input
from the stakeholders via a short simple questionnaire.
We also need to consider the availability of our volunteer
base which is vital to the mission of VBS.
Prior to
the meeting Elder Lyn Ames dropped off a proposed 2016
budget worksheet for the team to consider and give input to
Administration Ministry Team before to the next month’s
meeting. The team compared the budget worksheet to the
current expenditures and had a few questions. Susan
will email Administration Ministry Team and the bookkeeper
with a cc to the CE Team.
Under old
business Susan updated the team on the progress of the
Advent Devotional project. Congregation contributions
are nearly complete. The booklet will be edited at the end
of the week and then it can be copied. The Zondervan Advent
Devotional that was distributed last year has been ordered
and has arrived. Linda will be asked to provide
labels. The congregation will be encouraged to only
take one only if they have not saved it from last year.
Both devotionals will be available at the church entrances
starting the first Sunday of Advent.
The next
meeting will take place December 15th and the
devotion will be given by Scott Burns.
Meeting was
closed in prayer by Greg.
