Congregational Life & Outreach Ministry Team

Minutes December 14, 2010

Meeting was opened with prayer by Larry at 7:00PM.  In attendance were Bea Conner, Stephen Taylor, Kathy Story, Pat Felhauer, Larry Felhauer, Cindy Tafoya and Carissa Brealey-Rood.

The status of 2011 pledges to date and the impending budget were discussed.  The team was made aware that we must be very careful to manage our budget closely.  The budget is designed to allow us to focus more on outreach in 2011 both through advertising and programs such as the Gospel of John event.

The Thanksgiving Dinner was recapped and considered a success.  The number of students, while small, was still considerably larger than last year.  There was considerable excess food which was donated to the Gospel Rescue Mission.

Considerable discussion was given to the Gospel of John timetable and the various duties assigned.  To be successful, we must reach out to the community in a variety of ways to make them aware of the program.  Larry distributed flyers for folks to post wherever possible.  He is also working on contact list of local churches.  We will work with Pastor Norm to prioritize which to approach in person and to which we should send program information.  We will also attempt to contact local radio and TV outlets to see if we can get public service announcements at no cost.  Stephen will work on ensuring the Sanctuary is cleaned and that we have a sound operator.  Pat will work on supplying ushers through the Deacons.  Kathy will oversee the concessions for the intermission.  It was decided to offer child care for the event, but we will request people make reservations so we have an idea of how many providers will be needed.

Fellowship hour was discussed with some concern that few volunteers have stepped up.  This means Session teams, choirs, circles and youth will have to again be assigned.  The board will be posted shortly and email has gone out to all teams assigned through March.  We will continue to seek volunteers and make assignments for any open slots as the year progresses.

A brief discussion of the 2011 calendar of events was held.  The team will have further discussion of this at the January meeting, and Larry asked that team members come with ideas of how to spread out activities so we are not so concentrated in the October/November months.
