Congregational Life and Outreach (CLO) Ministry Team Minutes

Meeting was opened and closed with prayer. It began at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Kathy, Stephen, Lon, Dutch, Mika, and Nora.

Retrospective Reports:

Nora reported on successful cleansing of CLO closet during church work day. Lots of treasures were discovered. CLO team was asked to contribute clear plastic storage boxes.

Upcoming Events:

St. Patrick’s Day potluck, Mar 17, meet and greet for new members:

a. CLO team will meet at 8:30 a.m. Mar 17 to set up

b. Each CLO member will bring an extra large “green dish” to serve more than 8

c. CLO team will prepare green punch, coffee, tea, water, and bread

d. Will use throwaway plates and real silverware

e. Lon will wear green and make a pulpit announcement

f. We will use existing nametags

g. Lon will come up with icebreakers

h. CLO team will wear green

i. Nora will shop

Easter Services:

a. Lon and Stephen will hang Easter banners on Mar 17 after St. Pat’s day pot-luck.

b. Egg stuffing shall commence at 5:00 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, Mar 28

c. Lon will coordinate egg hiding with Mark and senior high group. We will have three categories for egg-searchers, prek-k, 1-3, and 4-5. Lon will make signs to divide and conquer these three groups at the pulpit area after worship service.

d. CLO will look for extra blue plastic bags for kids who are lacking traditional easter baskets

e. CLO will place containers in sanctuary entryways to collect egg candy beginning March 17

Hiking:

a. Lon will choose a spot , advertise in the church publications, and place on church calendar

b. Date set for April 21, 12:15 p.m., after worship

Graduation/mother’s day:

a. Nora will work with Mark on buying the graduation gifts.

b. CLO will provide 3 each, ˝ size sheet cakes

New business:

CLO kitchen responsibilities: Nora reported on progress made to develop and post kitchen guidelines for safe storage of food and various general kitchen usage guidelines.

Replacement for Janet McPherson’s job: CLO decided this was an administrative team function.

CLO team began discussion of how to foster small, special interest groups (e.g. knitting or trout fishing) that can meet at our church and develop personal relationships through the interest. The team decided we needed more time to mature this idea and to continue the discussion at the next CLO meeting.

CLO talked about the possibility of a Presbyterian cookbook. This item will be discussed again at the next meeting after the CLO team has more time to mull over the idea.

Session Action Item: The CLO recommends to the session that we have a “goodwill offering” during the men’s Easter breakfast to help defray breakfast costs.
