Congregational Life and Outreach (CLO) Ministry Team Minutes

August 13, 2013

Meeting opened and closed with prayer.  In attendance were Lon, Kathy, and Bea.  Also present were Don and Kim Lytton, who discussed holding

a marriage seminar with the CLO ministry team.

Retrospective Reports

Ice cream social:    Had a sweet time.  We had a couple of gallons of leftover ice cream, but it will be used for a fellowship hour. Probably about 3 gallons is the right amount for future events after worship.  The total cost for the event was only $50.

Blessing of the backpacks:  CLO responsibility was to support the deacons with advertising.  The Las Cruces Bulletin ran an article about the event for us.

Upcoming Events:

Marriage seminar: The CLO ministry team met with Don and Kim Lytton, who described a marriage seminar entitled “How to Relate Better To Your Mate”, that they proposed to teach at our church.  Previous to the face-to-face meeting, the Lyttons had provided information to the team via email and telephone. The seminar is based on developing communications skills using a method called process communication.  The CLO team approved the seminar and scheduled it for Sept 27-28.  More information is available for those interested.  The CLO team will be promoting the event through a variety of church publications and directly through the congregation. Also, Don and Kim are available Sept 8 for a pulpit announcement.

September hike:  Not scheduled yet

Trunk or treat    Assignments are as follows:

a.     Arrange for a bounce house.  Last year $55 total cost, asked for a check to be cut prior to the date to have on hand to give to the bounce house company. Nora

b.     Based on last year, we are planning to cook 360 hot dogs.  Last year we decided to go with the all-beef instead of the mysterious type. Est. cost is $135 for 360 dogs. Kathy

c.      300 cookies and ask for cookie donations from the congregation. Lon     

d.     Check crafts supplies, esp. for creating masks, man booth. Lon ask High School

e.     Condiments and nacho making ingredients.  Kathy

f.       Talk to Rev. Hawkins about a table manned by the Spanish speaking congregation. Kathy

g.     Procure frosting and sprinkles for cookies. Bea

h.     Costume judges. Kathy ask Michelle

j.       Praise band coordination.  Lon ask Greg and Kelly

k.     Coordination with other groups that want to have a table. Lon

Other business:

Small groups:  Lon will compile a list of current small groups meeting at our church.  The team also discussed a supper club, bowling league, and small bible study.

A first focus will be the supper club. CLO will structure initial guidelines via email and then try to get one started.
