Congregational Life and Outreach (CLO) Ministry Team Minutes

The meeting opened and closed with prayer.  In attendance were Lon, Stephen, Bea, Brian, Dot, and Dutch. 

These are the goals for the Congregational Life and Outreach Ministry Team for the upcoming year:

1.       Continue to enhance and improve communication

2.       Foster small groups

3.       Encourage other ministry teams to embrace “outreach” as a core mission

The current calendar of upcoming 2014 events follows:

Review of Soup and Games event held on February 9:

1.        Nice event, simple and easy to plan. Definitely worth doing again.

2.       About 70  people attended: we made about 1.5x as much food as we needed (we had around 9 types of soup)

3.       Only a few people played games but we agreed that was ok and should still offer games anyway.

4.       Could have benefitted from a sign at the start of the food line listing the types of soup available.

5.       Should have put it on our facebook page.  Along those lines, Dot agreed to be our facebook guru, to help ensure that events are better publicized on facebook.

Planning for Meet and Greet International Potluck:

1.       Lon will advertise in church publications.

2.       Stephen and Lon will make pulpit announcements beginning two weeks prior (March 2 and March 9)

3.       We plan to mail invitations to our new members (Kathy volunteered to do that).

4.       The time was set to 5 pm to make it work better with both FPC and Iglesia congregations.

Planning For Easter:

1.       Lon will verify that we have banners.

Planning for Mother’s Day and Graduation:

1.       Need to order gifts.  Lon will contact Nora and ask her if she would like to do that.

 

Other business:

Elder’s retreat March 1:  Lon brought up that Outreach will be one of the topics and if anyone has any advice along those lines please let him know.

Friend Sunday March 30:  The team approved participating in Friend Sunday but wanted to talk it over with Norm first before we actually commit, to ensure that it fits with his goals and approach.

Name of ministry team:  The team approved changing the name of the “Congregational Life and Outreach” ministry team to “Congregational Life and Outreach Support” ministry team.  The reason for the change is consistent with a desired cultural change that outreach will be perceived as a church-wide responsibility.
