MUSIC & WORSHIP MINISTRY TEAM

August 13, 2013 – MEETING MINUTES

Attendance: Carrol Blevins, Brad Class, Florence Hamilton,  Lloyd Kirschenmann, Marianne Maley, Wayne Maley, Jacque Parks, Greg Sherman, Howard Smolleck, Norm Story, Harry Topley, Marsha Topley

Not present  Gena Breck, David Klement, and Bill Kuyper,

The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:00 PM.  Moderator Kirschenmann asked for changes to the minutes of the May 14 or June 11 meetings. They were accepted as distributed.  He then called attention to the over-budget (total for year) expenditure for guest musicians.  The moderator was asked to confirm with David Klement and the bookkeeper that these expenses are accurately allocated.

Rev Story explained that attendance at services has been down more than during past summers.  Focus must be on bringing in new families.  We need to adopt strategies to help them become full active participants in our church life.  He also said he would meet soon with David Klement to set worship service outlines through December.

Chancel choir and Bells of Praise fall rehearsal times have been set for end of August.  Choir will sing an anthem on September 8.  Minor organ tuning/adjustment has been made.

Young Disciples leaders are scheduled for fall.  Liturgists are selected through November.  Sound/AV operators are scheduled.   Greg Sherman’s meeting with sound team resulted in adjustments for Rev Story’s mike volume settings.  Result has been compliments on sound level.

Pulpit supply when Rev Story is gone on October 6 will be Rev Wayne Hawkins, Rev Carol Blevins assisting.   For this World Wide Communion Sunday we need to change banners, include country flags and assist with worship details to make it a special service.  We discussed that Advent starts December 1, which is the Sunday immediately after Thanksgiving.

Faith and Fellowship is considering the merits of a prayer fellowship.

SESSION REPORT:  Communion was served to 119 worshipers on July 7.  In conjunction with the Sunday, August 4 communion we served 207.  (There were161 at the worship service, 29 at the Faith and Fellowship service, and 17 as an extension of the service in the community including by Rev Story with the youth on their mission trip.)

At our May 14 meeting Wayne was asked to draft job descriptions for Music and Worship opportunities for a possible fall event and/or for use in church publications.  The team reviewed descriptions for “Children’s Activity Bags,” “Copy and Distribute Recording of Services,” and “Church Decorating.”   Ways to make those activities more effective were discussed.  The approved announcements will be used in August and September.
