January 14, 2014 – MEETING MINUTES

Not present:  Gena Breck, David Klement,,  Bill Kuyper,

 

            The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:00 PM by Moderator Greg Sherman.  New deacon member Pat Felhauer was welcomed and observer Barbara Kewley was introduced.  It was voted to accept as distributed the Minutes for the December 10 meeting.

 

            Pastor Norm explained the historic worship service being planned for January 19 when communicants from Iglesia del Pueblo will combine with the First Presbyterian class for a baptism/new member service.  This blended service is leading the Presbyterian Church (USA) in efforts to incorporate new Worshiping Communities among the churches.  We should work to have additional common services with Worshiping Communities including Iglesia and the Faith and Fellowship congregation. 

 

            The moderator distributed notebooks with Team background information.  He asked for volunteers to present meeting opening devotionals.  Responsibilities for various activities were outlined and assigned as indicated in the following.

 

            The new hymnal committee, chaired by Bill Kuyper, has announcements, written articles, and sponsorship forms to introduce the Glory to God hynmal.  During the next couple of months the committee members will present programs to introduce the books.  Book plates are now available for those who sponsor a hymnal.  Approximately 80% of the funds needed have been donated.  Hopefully the hymnals can be available the first Sunday in Lent, March 9.   

 

SESSION REPORT:  Communion was served on January 5 to 195 worshipers and 30 at the Faith and Fellowship service on January 4  for a total of 225.          

 

            This year Brad Class will coordinate communion services.  He explained a new system for servers where active elders are asked to serve the same position each communion or find a substitute from previously commissioned elders. 

            Bill Kuyper is to coordinate liturgists.  They have been selected through February.  Florence Hamilton was asked to chair pulpit supply when a need occurs later in the year.  Gerry Grandle will schedule sound operators, however he declined to be a Team member.  Brent Brewer has indicated interest in the recorded service ministry. 

            Wayne Maley reported that Christmas decorations had been boxed and stored on January 11 with help for several jobs done earlier in the week.  A limited crew helped.  Many more including In Betweeners had participated in putting up decorations.  A printed description of the jobs done can be made available to those requesting a copy.

              Pat Felhauer will assist with Children’s activity bags and explore obtaining a supplies storage file.  Judith Ames will be asked to coordinate Young Disciples schedule 

             Howard Smoleck was asked to discuss the need for steps in the organ room with Buildings and Grounds.  Schedule past Easter for choir and other music groups has been printed by Director Klement. 

            Jacque Parks will check for Easter flower order and memorial forms as well as palms for Palm Sunday on April 13.   

            Budget information did not show transfer to Organ Overhaul Reserve.

 

Up coming Team responsibilities:            

            February 2   –  Communion

            March 5 –             Ash Wednesday   – Special service with Salt and Light
