 MUSIC & WORSHIP MINISTRY TEAM

February 11, 2014 – MEETING MINUTES

Attendance:   Carrol Blevins, Brad Class, Pat Felhauer, Florence Hamilton, Wayne Maley,

                    Greg Sherman, Norm Story,

Not present:  Gena Breck, David Klement, Bill Kuyper, Jacque Parks, Howard Smolleck.

The meeting was opened with devotion “Go” and prayer at 7:00 PM by Carrol.

It was voted to accept as distributed the Minutes for the January 14 meeting.  The moderator reviewed budget items that need to be watched this year.

Pastor Norm said Ash Wednesday service on March 6 will include a special Salt and Light skit.

The moderator distributed tabs for Team notebooks and copies of budget and other pages to insert.  The new hymnal committee was encouraged to continue Sunday morning announcements and written articles about sponsorships of the Glory to God hymnal.

SESSION REPORT:  Communion was served on February 2 to 205 worshipers and 41 at the Faith and Fellowship service on February 1, for a total of 246.

Brad reported the new system for servers worked. Assigned elders who were gone obtained their substitute.  He explained serving trays came up short when youth came in together and all sat in the same section.   A schedule for serving communion to shut-ins was discussed – Carrol and Brad to consider.

Liturgists have been scheduled. There were concerns about some liturgists’ timing and how to reduce time gaps in services.  Bill is asked to consider an orientation time before the service, to include a review of what music is included during their specific time.   No pulpit supply needs are active.   Jerry Grandle has scheduled sound operators.  Greg is to make sure he has Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday covered. Deacon ushers also will be needed.

Children’s activity bags have been washed and restocked.  Pat reported supplies have been refurbished and now stored in filing drawers in the office copy room.  No Young Disciple concerns.

Storage and accessibility of items that support worship services continues to be a problem.   Banner room could benefit from a rack (like store quilt/carpet) or a specially made cabinet.  A request for help of a carpenter/cabinet maker will be inserted in The Good News.  Maundy Thursday candle box is in the Deacons room closet.  Big flower vases continue to crowd the ladies rest rooms.  Oil candles from end of pew holders are in the Maley’s garage.  Wayne will devise an inventory of available decorations.

Jacque (and Linda) have ordered Easter flowers and will purchase palms for Palm Sunday.  For better planning a record should be made of: number of flowers ordered; number sponsored; how may delivered to shut-ins, number picked up by donors, and what happened to any remaining.

There were no reports about choirs, musical instruments, or Faith and Fellowship.  There were numerous compliments about the “Rain down” choral response from the new Glory To God hymnal that was incorporated with the Sunday prayer.  The Team supports presentation of The Last Supper drama during Lent 2015.  Greg will pursue.

Up-coming Team responsibilities:

            March 2 – Communion

March 5 – Ash Wednesday – Special service with Salt and Light

It was voted to adjourn.  Greg closed with prayer at 8:00    PM.
