Las Cruces Soccer Referee Association
Regular Meeting, January 8, 2014
Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7:03 pm by Nigel Holman.

Approval of minutes from meeting of December 11, 2013. Motion by Gina, second by Cathy. Approved unanimously.

President’s report
No report. Comment was made that the Las Cruces Youth Soccer league will need a new assignor after this spring—Eric will no longer be serving in that capacity.

State report
Tom Duttle discussed recertification and Grade 8 clinics. Discussion of appropriate times and dates ensued. Concensus was to hold a recert clinic on January 25 and Grade 8 clinic on February 8.
Tom reported that the state was concerned about an event that happened in which a player had inappropriate language on her jersey but was allowed to play. That is considered bringing the game into disrepute and should not be allowed. The entire referee team is responsible for enforcing rules, not just the center.

Mesilla Valley update
Bill Lindemann reported that we had a good final game in December. If anyone wants to referee in the adult league, please contact Bill.

Youth League update
Dominique Gbogbo reported that the league wants to pay referees at the field—do the report immediately and be paid there. Discussion ensued. Dominique will try to coordinate this in a way that works for everyone. One suggestion was made to have meetings every two weeks during the season in order to allow refs to be paid more frequently.

Training
Nigel Holman asked for suggestions on training topics for the upcoming year. Suggestions included: bench discipline, tournament refereeing and KFTPM, use of whistle/flag/mechanics for the AR, pregame, dealing with foul language, appropriate use and mechanics of dropped balls.
Nigel then asked everyone to identify their primary goals for the year in refereeing. Comments included: discipline, conditioning, challenging oneself, communication, broadening experience, timeliness, staying healthy, and improving skill.

Meeting adjourned at 7:58 pm.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Tim Pitts.
