Board of Directors Meeting

10/10/18

Called to order at 6:18pm.

Discussion on young referees. Some young referees were looked at that were as young as 12 years old. Bill Lindemann stated that he is not sure if we want to put kids out there that are that young. They would need a parent that knows the game. President Gbogbo to attend the LCYSL BOD meeting and announce that we should start referees no younger than 14 years of age.

The youth league has announced a willingness to pay for us to train while out at the fields.

Suggestions: Young referees come out and watch senior refs do High School and Adult games with a trainer present to teach and comment.

Xavier Chavez (VP) suggested that we look at certain refs that we believe have the maturity and abilities to advance to attend these training observation games. He can start the process of teaching them things like: positioning, game control, pre-game talk…ect. We will ask referees tonight at the general meeting to try this.

Regular Meeting

10/10/18

President Gbogbo called to order at 7:00pm.

Minutes for February, July, August and September were submitted today but not yet posted. We will present them for approval next month.

MVSL President Lara Sanborn talked about the uniform issues and League direction for officials doing their games. In summary, she said that the official can use his or her own “discretion” and that minor differences in color or design can be overlooked so long as it does not interfere with fair-play. Of course, there are varying opinions among us referees and we had the usual back and forth discussion. The end result is use some discretion and common-sense and play ball! She was asked about a recent game that Tom Duttle centered and after a short lightning delay, the game was around the 75th minute at the time of the weather delay, he terminated the game so that the 5pm game could get started and finish before dark. She said that was very acceptable.

VP Chavez gave the announcement of the referee training game that he will host for any referee that wants to learn and improve. The game being used is on HN1 on 10/14/18 at 5pm.

Pat Switzer, who is the NM Youth Soccer President was present and he stated the they had gotten the City to start putting in the parent line outside of the touch line at the fields and have had good success with it. Next they will try to get the City to put in a line for the technical or team area. Youth Soccer also has a new Risk Management policy. The result is we will ALL have to pass a new background check and adult referees (18 & over) will have the privilege of paying for it. Only 5 - $10.00.

Juan Mena, LCYSL Assignor was present and said that youth league game reports are still coming in incomplete. You must provide the information of who scored each goal.

Provide the number/name for each goal and misconduct card for the game. Please use correct terminology for cards.

We had a discussion on the light problem on HN1 and that we should not officiate ANY games on that field until the lights are fixed. Currently, only the lights on the west side of the field are working.

Tom Duttle gave us all a reminder that when checking in the teams to make sure to check the pass-cards as well as the roster. Don’t get complacent, and don’t forget the coaches must have a pass card as well.

Bill Lindemann talked about the need to do a good pre-game talk for EVERY game, and to be sure to work as a team at all times.

Tom Duttle gave the training today. Foul recognition and game awareness was the topic.

Adjourned at 8:05pm.
