On the 14th, 15th, and 16th of June
2002, the Club enjoyed an outing to Reservation Lake in Arizona. Original plans called for
a trip to Hurricane Lake for which reservations had been made several months previous. As
is often the case, plans go awry and on the weekend prior to the planned trip a
representative from the Apache Tribe called to notify us that they had inadvertently
doublebooked for our weekend. They gave us the option of picking another place on the
Reservation to camp and since the mistake was theirs, they would waive the camping and
fishing fees. A hasty board meeting was called and the decision was made to go ahead with
the trip. Reservation Lake was picked as the camping site. Everyone who had signed up for
the trip was notified and almost all decided to go ahead.
A few members went over on Thursday evening, with the bulk arriving during the day Friday
with a few late arrivals on Friday night. An awning was put up to shelter the Saturday
night communal dining area. Most members camped in close proximity to that area, but a few
who weren't sure they could stand that much togetherness camped a little distance away.Click on the images for a larger view. |

Fishing was not as good as it could have
been due to a passing weather front which resulted in quite a bit of wind. However, fish
were caught as shown here with Bob Silver releasing a nice German Brown. |
Preparations are getting underway for
the Saturday night feast of roast beast (well BBQ'd actually). |
 |
 |
It took a little urging to get people to
start through the chow line, but once started they moved swiftly. As you can see
here the photographer (Bob Pridgen) was only able to catch the tail end of the line. |
Things slowed down however when they
reached the other table. They had to decide which roast beast they wanted to try
(there were three). Most took the easy way out and took some of each. |

 |
With plates filled everyone dug in.
The camaraderie was thick as tall tales were swapped, and maybe a few out and
out lies (fishing stories) were told. |
Jeff Arteburn won the prize for most
family members present. He brought his brother, father, and two daughters.
They had a big camp set up and seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. |
 |
Everyone seemed to agree that the outing
was a great success and even though it was moved from the original site everything worked
out well. Those members who didn't make the trip missed a good time and should
really consider making future trips. Jon King won the prize for the farthest travel
having come from San Antonio, Texas. If he can come all that distance surely more of
us locals can make it. |
