January 2016

Simple Baetis
 

Hook: Dachii small nymph hook or similar, size 16 or smaller
Thread: brown 8/0
Body: brown turkey biot or long goose biot
Thorax: hare mask dubbing, olive
Over wing: brown biot with pearl flash tinsel coated with UV knot sense.
Tail: moose mane hair

Semi-Realistic Caddis

 

Hook: Daiichi 1120 or 1130 size 18-14
Body: Foam 1/4 or 2mm brown
Thread: Brown 8/0 or 14/0
Wing: Light Brown Medallion Sheeting
Legs: All Purpose Natural Deer Hair
Hackle: Brown or Brown/Olive size 16
Antenna: Optional Brown Micro Fibetts

Extra tools needed: Long sewing needle

Flies are by Deward Yocum who will be leading the fly tying this month.  Deward is a fly tyer and former guide from Los Lunas, NM.  He is known for his realistic patterns and is a well published tyer who has tied all over the US including the International Fly Tying Symposium in Somerset, NJ.  He has guided on the San Juan for many years.  He is very knowledgeable and brings a different style to fly tying.
