Pat & Norm in front of Waleke's World

Check out that floor!

Waleke's World by Robert Boren

During our recent travels, Anne and I had the priviledge of visiting for a short time with Pikes Peak Section members Norm and Pat Waleke from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Together, retirees Norm and Pat have built a car collection and a place to house it that gives new meaning to the term enthusiast. From the three-pointed star in the wrought iron gates on the drive, to the one in the ceramic tile on the floor of one of the three garages, their home is a temple for car buffs in general and Mercedes-Benz owners in particular.
Since the weather of southern New Mexico is ideal for top down motoring, their collection naturally leans towards convertible sports cars including an '89 560SL, a '97 SL500 Anniversary Edition and a '98 SLK230. For 'daily' transportation, they have a '93 300E Sportline and, in acknowledgement of the other half of DaimlerChrysler, they also include a '01 Prowler and PT Cruiser in the stable. And just to prove that even the best of us can be tempted, a '00 Honda S2000 rounds out the group.
As if this wasn't enough, Norm and Pat have added and remodeled garages that would make TV's Tim 'the tool man' Taylor drool with envy! Heated and air conditioned, they house their other automotive memorabilia and a workshop in addition to the cars. With a TV and fridge in one, Norm spends more time in it than the house!
Pat's other pastime is working with her computer and developing an award winning web site about Waleke's World. You can see it and learn more about Norm and Pat and their collection at www.zianet.com/SLlover. As you'll soon learn, they're always happy to welcome other Mercedes-Benz fans and I recommend taking the opportunity to stop by if you're in the area. My thanks to Norm and Pat for their hospitality and showing us their collection!
