Christian Education Ministry Team
September 14,
2010
6:15pm – Jones Hall
Excused: Theresa Armendariz, and David Medina
Edit to the August 2010
Minutes. Under the Sunday School report – “Presbyterian Women will be
teaching a Sunday school class on the book of Daniel. The class is a Beth
Moore study.”
Continued discussion for
budgeting concerns for upcoming year. Members are reflecting on past year
and list budget concerns for 2011 budget discussion. Rational is to help
moderator budget discussions when viewing entire church budget. Discussion
prompted for a CE line item dealing with advertising expense. Mark to
follow up with Michelle for the expense details. Mark and Kristy to talk
to Michelle about firm numbers for Youth ministries and Salt & Light. Also to
inquire about a monthly carryover for their transaction reports.
Susan Grandle is continuing to
staff elementary Sunday School teachers. Adult Sunday school is continuing
with Blaine Goss and Dick Dale. Dick Dale started his class with studies in
Timothy August 8th. Dick’s class will be added to Sunday’s
bulletin weekly agenda. Jean O’Neill will be leading a prayer time during
Sunday school in the conference room that focuses on the escalating violence in
Mexico and for Presbyterian Churches in Juarez beginning Sunday, Set 19th.
The Youth held a lock-in for
the purposes of painting the high school room. The activity was to help
students create a sense of belonging through placing their names on the wall
along with their handprint or diagram. A successful car wash was held on
Sept 11 and a Parent’s Night Out was held on August 27th.
The youth also had a service project of picking weeds for a community member.
Mark held a parent meeting on Sept 12. Mark disseminated information and
asked for parent volunteers to take part in a Parent Advisory Council.
A Confirmation class will be
starting on Sunday, September 19th. This class will run to
November 7th.
Introductions all around to
Kristine Lambert, our new CE Program Director. Kristy jumped in with both
feet for our first Salt and Light held on Sept 8th. It was a
great night with the kitchen crew serving 135 people. Many thanks to all for
continued success of this ministry.
Advent devotionals have been
reviewed and are being ordered. A family and individual devotional will be
part of our Advent season.
Discussion prompted about the
safety of children, youth and volunteers on our campus and church activities.
Background checks are necessary for the safety of everyone. Though
background checks are constantly and consistently done, CE would like to require
background checks for all volunteers in direct contact with children and youth.
As an extension to making a safe campus, Kristy is looking into a program called
Safe Sanctuary. This program is a training session for volunteers
about child safety and volunteer responsibilities. Discussion prompted for
CE to provide a table of activities for Trunk and Treat. Unfortunately, CE
has to decline the task of preparing a table of activities due to many wanting
to spend the time with their younger children during Halloween.
Sept 19 – Confirmation Class starts (weekly)
Sept 26 – Bibles children during Worship
Oct 16 – Garage Sale (pending Session approval)
Oct 31 – Truck or Treat
