Deacon Minutes

September 20, 2012

Attendance: Don Behnke, Mike Bartholomew, Bruce Pearson, David Medina, Rusty Smith, Winnie Quinzi, Donna Mathis, Jacque Parks, Bea Connor, Cindy Tafoya, Neil Moe, Eddie Armendariz

Excused: Harry Topley, Anna Suggs

Meeting was opened with prayer by David Medina

Moderator's Remarks:

1. Rusty acknowledged the faithful work of Don Behnke on local mission projects, and David Medina, who has been working many hours on the church vehicles.

2. A request for assistance, intended to be a gift rather than a loan from the Deacons, has been repaid by the recipient. Although this was unnecessary, it was appreciated as the payback showed gratitude and responsibility.

3. Rusty reported that the budget for Hospice is very low this year. Although our congregation will not donate at this time, we will publicize the need. Deacons will provide Christmas baskets, as usual, for hospice families.

Committees:

Ushering Reminders:

Please make sure the Ritual of Friendship registration pages are picked up after worship services.

The lights have been left on in the Deacon room; please turn them off when leaving the area.

The offering bag needs to be locked after the offering is received. Please make sure the tongue of the zipper is underneath the lock and cannot be unzipped.

Local Missions:

Don Behnke reported on the food pantry outreach and mattress ministry. Mattress donations have begun, and notices about this project have been place in the Good News, and bulletins. Local Mission Committee meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m.

Old Business:

Hamburger Fry - October 7. Jacque Parks agreed to purchase the food. Deacons were asked to provide cupcakes for dessert. Preparations on Sunday will begin around 8:30 am.

Las Cruces Cares event will take place on November 4th. Planning will be taken care of at the October meeting.

New Business:

FPC college ministry kickoff is September 21, at the Presbyterian College Ministry Building on the NMSU campus. The Praise Band is providing supper and music for the students.

Next meeting is Thursday, October 18th, 7 p.m.

The meeting was closed with the Mizpah benediction.

Respectfully submitted,

Winnie Quinzi
