MUSIC & WORSHIP MINISTRY TEAM

MARCH  09, 2010 – MEETING MINUTES

Attendance      Melanie Grant, Florence Hamilton, David Klement, Marianne Maley, Wayne Maley, Marsha Topley, Rev. Norm Story

Not Present     Sam Bartholomew, Mick Geiger, Joanne Kersting, Jim Parks, Howard Smolleck, Paul Vaughan

Melanie opened the meeting 7:00 PM with a meditation about “listening” and prayer.

Minutes of the February 9 meeting were accepted as distributed with a few edits.   Budget information is more useful.  A few errors in the budget report were noted.

There were 250 who partook of communion on March 07.

The February 14 Concert Series “Festival of Hymns and Anthems” was well received. The university students continue to make complimentary comments about the experience.  Additions are being made for a contact list of choir directors and others to receive announcements for future concerts.   Rehearsals for the next concert, April 9, are moving ahead.  The Ministry Team is to provide welcomers outside each of the doors and ushers at the inside seats.    .

Discussion of regular activities included the following.

Bell Choir–the guest choir from Vista Middle School effectively added to the service on March 7. It was disappointing that the ringers really did not stay to participate in the worship.

Organ – instruments.  Appreciation was expressed for the new piano in the lounge.  It is a gift from the estate of Caroline Darr presented by Charlie and Nora Yaryan.

Children’s activity bags, some were effectively used during the Concert Series as no child care was offered at that event.

Young Disciples leaders – Marsha will fill in while Judith Ames is gone later this spring.

Communion Preparation – More help is needed before communion Sunday services.  For Maundy Thursday, communion will be served at four stations by intinction using pita bread and juice.  For that service Florence will assist David to obtain readers.

Sanctuary decorations to be removed for Maundy Thursday, and 12 candles used. Easter flowers have been ordered and will be placed on Friday, April 2.  For a wedding on March 20 our decorations will be removed so flowers can be placed; the Topleys will replace our decorations early Sunday Morning.  Candelabra need to be cleaned and refurbished or disposed of.  We discussed possibility for a team of set up coordinators, one to represent the church and attend to details for each time the church is used for non-worship functions such as weddings.

Sound/AV – Jerry Grandle has accepted additional Session jobs and moderator of the Nominating Committee.  He asked to be relieved of responsibility for scheduling Sound Systems Operators (the Schedule is mostly complete through Memorial Day).  Various possibilities for structuring the Operators team were discussed and will be pursued with Jerry. Separately, steps for adding sound system use to the Fee Schedules need to be established.

Upcoming team responsibilities include communion Maundy Thursday, Palms for Sunday March 28, Concert Series April 9, full communion May 2. Fellowship Hour coming up.

The meeting was closed with prayer at 8:30 PM
