Florence opened the
meeting with a meditation and prayer at 7:10 PM. We welcomed Lloyd back
following his knee surgery to serve as chair of the meeting in moderator
Parks absence.
Minutes of the June
12 meeting were accepted as distributed. There were no unusual items
noted from the budget report.
Reports from regular
activities included:
Choirs:
David extended thanks to all who have provided special music this
summer. He announced that first bells rehearsal will be August 27 and
chancel choir September 5. Both groups will participate in the September
9 service. It is expected that all new choral scholars will be
introduced at a music social on August 29. Two new choir members are
expected. There are openings for two bell players.
Organ & other
instruments: Howard said
new electronic control system is very helpful. Some adjustments to it
may be made during organ tuning that is planned when weather cools.
Pulpit supply:
For World Communion Sunday, October 7, the Rev. Dr. Wayne Hawkins, is
invited to fill the pulpit while Rev. Dr. Story is on vacation. Iglesia
del Pueblo congregation will worship with the 10:30 AM service.
Worship
support: Liturgists and
young disciple leaders are scheduled for the rest of the summer.
Opening sentences for
liturgists were discussed and instructions that could help the
transition to worship following the meditation. We also considered ways
to smooth the transition between offering prayer and
young disciples
invitation to come up front.
Howard reported for
Esther that several of the hooks used for children’s activity bags were
loose. He has reset and tightened all of them. In response to a parent’s
request, Esther is adding more scrap paper sheets to the bags.
Communion:
Greg asked all team members
to help set up the September 2 Communion.
SESSION REPORT:
Communion was served on July 8 to 2xx (Including 25 at Faith &
Fellowship) and on August 5 to 183 (includes 27 at Faith & Fellowship).
Sound/AV:
Howard was asked to move the computer and related digital equipment for
recording of services from the choir room to the sound control loft.
Sanctuary
Decorations: Poinsettias
are planned for Advent/Christmas (our decorator suggests 60 red and 20
white.) It will be necessary to accommodate several group programs and
different worship service needs. Cost needs to be determined and
information about purchase of a memorial or honor plant should be
prepared for the November issue of The Lantern (October 25) and other
announcements. David asked to be included with the planning task group.
Future Team

September 2 Communion

September 11 Team
