MINISTRY TEAM
September 9, 2014 – MEETING
MINUTES
Attendance: Brad Class, Pat
Felhauer, Florence Hamilton, Wayne Maley, Greg Sherman, Howard
Smolleck, Norm Story,
Not present: Gena Breck, David
Klement, Bill Kuyper, Jacque Parks,
The meeting was opened at 7:00 PM by Wayne
with a devotion using hymns from Glory to God.
We sadly remember contributions of team member Rev. Carrol
Blevins. Pastor Norm outlined the plan for her
memorial service on September 21. Rev. John Himes assisted
with communion (09-07) and will be available for other needs.
With the departure of Rev. Wayne Hawkins right after World Wide
Communion Sunday, demands for Rev. Story’s time to assist the
Iglesia del Pueblo congregation will increase.
It was voted to accept as distributed the
minutes for the August 12 meeting with a slight wording change
to read “. . . the first Sunday [for the choir]
to lead the worship will be 7 September.” It was
agreed that the team’s financial report format has improved and
was easy to follow. It was questioned if the hymn book
sub-committee was expecting to use the remaining funds, e.g.,
purchase additional large print editions. Pat will work
with Deacon usher captains to formalize and announce in the
Sunday bulletin a procedure for requesting and returning a large
print hymn book.
Choirs, liturgists, young Disciples
leaders, sound operators, are up to date. Children’s
activity bag usage was limited during the summer but ready for
fall. Howard has made a master CD of the last few services
by combining the digital recordings. He’ll be glad to
train a volunteer to do this. Sanctuary decor was changed
to fall by Janice Sherman and Gracia Class; Lloyd Kirschenmann
changed banners.
SESSION REPORT: Communion was
served on September 7 to 209 worshipers.
On Sundays when Communion is served,
preparation is at 9:00 AM. Additional helpers are
requested for clean up after the service.
Faith and Fellowship started their fall
Saturday evening services with the showing of the meaningful
film “God is Not Dead.” Saturday evening services
will continue to be in the Sanctuary each week at 6:00PM, except
the third Saturday of the month a meal will be served in Jones
Fellowship Hall and the service will follow in the Library.
Discussion of how to get more church-wide
participation and involvement, led to discussion about time for
services (including on other days/evenings), study options (like
a condensed study class 9:45 - 10:15), more publicity (including
what’s coming up hand outs) and summer choirs. The
moderator asked the team to seek out additional M&W members
