MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM

Minutes of August 10, 2010 Meeting

The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:08 p.m.

PRESENT: Moderator Alex Burr, Janice Sherman, Lloyd Kirschenmann, Rosemary Maddox, and Bob Taylor.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the June 8, 2010 meeting were approved as published.

DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNICATIONS: Alex has received information from Doug Barron indicating that the program in which he serves (Campus Crusade, Latin America) has been reorganized and he is currently out of a job. However, he is likely to be reorganized into another job; more information will be available next month.

FELLOWSHIP HOUR: Alex thanked Janice for taking charge of the details of the August 1st Fellowship Hour. It was noted that the Missions quilt made by Jean O'Neill and enhanced by Rosemary made a good display.

MISSIONS FRONTIERS: Copies of the magazine were distributed to the Mission Team. Alex reviewed articles pertaining to international committee meetings (Tokyo 2010); engaging the unengaged people groups; and the frequently asked questions about Jesus movements within Muslim communities. Alex discussed the difference between evangelism and discipleship. He commented that the difficulty in spreading Christianity in India is the caste system, so embedded in society that it is difficult to introduce new ideas.

MISSION BOOKLET: The booklet as Alex sent it out had an error in the address and was not openable. He will resend it.

PEACEKEEPING SPECIAL OFFERING IN OCTOBER: This will be taken up at the September meeting. A Minute for Missions will be needed, and Alex will write an article for The Lantern, incorporating a poster made by Judith Ames with pictures by Robert McPherson.

ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was closed with prayer at 8:00 p.m.
