MISSION MINISTRY TEAM

Minutes of October 12, 2010 Meeting

 

The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:05 p.m.

 

PRESENT: Moderator Alex Burr, Bob Taylor, Richard Paul, Doris Silva, Blaine Goss, Rosemary Maddox, and Rusty Smith

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the September 14th meeting were approved as published.

 

DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNICATIONS: The Profit & Loss Budget Performance report was discussed briefly. A letter was received from Donna Evans detailing her medical problems. Nothing more has been heard about the Lytton's move from Beijing to Hong Kong, and the Barrons are still up in the air because of reorganization within Campus Crusade.

 

MISSIONARY VISIT: On October 31st Rev. Amy Robinson from Pasos de Fe will be here and will give a Minute for Missions. Alex will write some publicity for her visit. Rev. Robinson will speak in the library after services about difficulties in Juarez.

 

MISSION BOOKLET: Changes in text will have to be made concerning the Lyttons and the Barons, as indicated above. Alex has spoken with Insta-Copy and the cost for printing the booklet is quite reasonable and will give us no cause to worry.

 

PEACEKEEPING SPECIAL OFFERING: Alex said the final report on the amount of the offering will be in within a week. He estimates total will be between $400 and $600, 40% of which is designated for the use of this church. He was aware that La Casita had applied to the Deacons for financial assistance, and suggested that contributing these funds to that project would be a good fit. It was the consensus of the Ministry Team Members that 40% of the Peacekeeping Offering should be given to La Casita. Alex will find out to what entity the check should be made and get it in the mail, probably Monday. The Team did not support a special solicitation of the congregation for this cause.

 

CHURCH WEBSITE: Dick Dale, Chairman of the Website Committee, addressed the Mission Team about proposed changes in the website. He handed out copies of the proposed new home page and discussed various picture/text/link combinations to choose from. The Website Committee will meet on October 28th, and they would like to know before then what the Mission Team wants on the website. Alex commented that there is quite an extensive missionary link on the website now and it will be automatically moved over.

 

ADDITIONAL ITEMS: Bob expressed regret about failure to schedule a visit from the Haspels, and emphasized that when we get a communication in the future that they are available, Rev. Story should be contacted immediately about inviting them.

 

BUDGET: Alex said the Budget Committee will meet next week and the budget-making process will take place over the next couple of months. The Mission Team needs to be thinking about our proposal to the committee.

 

NEXT MEETING: Alex will be out of town for that meeting. Blaine will fill in for him.
