Missions Committee Minutes

 

February 11, 2014

 

Present: Jacqui Jones, Jean O’Neil, Alex Burr, Blaine Goss

 

Excused: Mike Bartholomew, Collette Walz

 

The meeting was opened at 7:03 p.m. with a reading by Jacqui from the Mission Yearbook of Prayer (2013) about the Presbytery of Sierra Blanca.

 

The mission minutes from January 14 were approved.

 

Correspondence received was distributed and discussed. Two newsletters will be posted on the Missions Bulletin Board located in the Hallway of Jones Hall. Jacqui advised that all other Newsletters received since January have been posted there.

 

An e-mail message from Doug Barron advising us of an upcoming visit from March 5 – 10, 2014 had been sent to members of the Missions Committee earlier. Jacqui contacted him by telephone on 2/9 to ask what he would like to do while here. He was flexible so the committee decided they would like to have him

Make a presentation to the Sunday School of about 30-45 minutes

Do a Minute for Mission (very short – e.g. 1 minute) during Worship service

Discussion and Q & A period after Fellowship time

Meet with Missions Committee for lunch – place to be decided later

Jacqui will call him to advise of our discussion and make any changes, if necessary. His expenses will be reimbursed if needed, and an honoraria $100 check will be cut before the visit and provided to the missionary at the time of his arrival, as decided in the minutes of December 10, 2013.

 

The committee was pleased with the announcement made to the congregation about the new Missions Directory by Kate Puckett last Sunday. We believe it was well received.

 

Discussion was held about the Missions Expenses vs. Budget and some corrections should be made. Jean O’Neil will advise the bookkeeper re the Budget figures and hopefully have the corrections made.

 

The meeting closed with prayer by Alex Burr at 7:55 p.m.
