This was an old family cemetery; it is in very bad shape and is overgrown with vines and bushes, very hard to get through. The land belongs to the Thompson family. I can't say if this is all of the people in this cemetery or not. I did copy all of the stones that I could find, when I visited this cemetery on Oct 15, 2003. -- Dorothy Atkins
How to get there--i.e., to what we're calling, for now, the Parish Farm Road Cemetery:
Take I-20 in Louisiana, exit 141, and go south on Bee Bayou Rd. six miles to where it curves to the right. Around the curve, the name changes to Crawford Road [John M. Gwin Note: According to Google maps, now you're going west]. Nine-tenths of a mile later the name of the road changes again to John Crocker Rd. for another nine-tenths of a mile, then tees into another road [John M. Gwin Note: According to Google maps, this would be Johnny Walker Road] which is unmarked. Go south about fifty feet, then turn east on Parish Farm Rd. for about one and three-tenths miles. [John M. Gwin Note: According to Google maps, John Crocker Rd. tees into Johnny Walker Road, but going south on JWR, it is approximately 1600 feet--not 50--to Parish Farm Rd.--and PFR only goes to the west, not the east.] The cemetery is on the south side next to the road, but it's so overgrown, you can't see the stones from the road. [John M. Gwin Note: Until we have a more correct name, we'll call this the Parish Farm Road Cemetery.]

John M. Gwin 34

Self TN/LA

It occurs to me that this could be a grandson of William Gwin, son of Isom and Mary Canterbury Gwin. We know that William and Susanna were married in Tennessee and several of their children were born there as well.

Isabelle Gwin 35
1845 m
Wife TN/LA

I would like to see Isabelle's maiden name.

Levi J. Gwin 10
1870 s
Son . .
This middle initial probably is a J; however, it could easily be a  mistranscribed "I"--for Isom?

Tracking down the descendents of these four sons (Levi, Harry, Oscar, and John) in later censuses could lead us to living descendents who might be able to tell us about these parents, John M. and Isabelle.

Harvy J. Gwin 7

Son . .
This middle initial probably is a J; however, it could easily be a  mistranscribed "I"--for Isom?

Oscar is buried with his parents at the cemetery, above. Tracking down the descendents of these four sons (Levi, Harvey, Oscar, and John) in later censuses could lead us to living descendents who might be able to tell us about these parents, John M. and Isabelle.

James is the one who would be the son of our William and Susannah Beard Gwin, i.e.,  if any of these are.  He and William were b. in TN, but I don't tink Susannah was b. in Scotland, though we can't rule that out yet.

Oho! Now John says his parents were from Kentucky!  I really don't think this is true; however, that's what the enumerator reports.

After Thoughts

During the 1820's and "30's, when William Hixon was living a few miles east of the Alabama River near Claiborne, Alabama, Samuel Boughton had a store across the river several miles north in the next county. He had married Harriet P. Strother, a native of South Carolina; most, if not all, of their children, including Rebecca (Prewitt) and Roger Sherman, were born there at Lower Peach Tree.

James and Lucy Newberry, the parents of Mary (Hixon), Susan (Hixon), and Jane (Thames), had a number of sons, one named James. James, likewise, had a son named James Henry, who was the father of Eugene, Mack, and Julia; Julia married Levi Gwin, and their daughter, Isabelle, married T.A. Judd.

[John M. Gwin Note: It is this last paragraph above which seems to positively relate to the family of this John M. and Isabelle Gwin of Richland Parish, LA, and I translate it here to my format:]
1.0--James and Lucy (nee Thames) Newberry
2.0--Mary Newberry (Hixon)
2.0--Susan Newberry (Hixon)
2.0--Jane Newberry (Thames)
2.0--James Newberry
3.0--James Henry Newberry
4.0--Eugene Newberry
4.0--Mack Newberry
4.0--Julia Newberry m. Levi Gwin
5.0--Isabelle Gwin married T. A. Judd.
[John M. Gwin Note: But the census documents (1880 and 1900 so far) tell a different story: Isabelle, nee unk., has married John M. Gwin.  The only way these two could be the same person is if T. A. Judd is her first husband and John M. Gwin is her second.]
