Camel
Rock Resort and Casino is located in the Sangre De Cristo
Mountains,
a few minutes up the road from Cities of Gold Casino. The
facility,
although older than many of the other casinos, is one of the more
attractive. The casino has the usual mix of table games and slot
machines. My last visit there, I discovered a quarter roulette
machine.
My wife knew where to find me after that discovery! Camel Rock
also
has the rare distinction (along with Isleta) of having several
Silver
Strike machines. The last time I was there, I didn't see them.
Hopefully,
the machines were just relocated. Across the road from the
casino is the “Camel Rock” rock. Rather an interesting
formation.
From most angles, the rocks do look like a camel. However, I've often
wondered if camels roamed through the area. During the
1800s.
the Army imported camels into the Arizona deserts, but soon abandoned
the
experiment and the camels. Maybe some wandered into New Mexico.
Camel Rock is definitely a fun casino. Along with Cities of
Gold, well worth a visit.
