Sandia Casino, Sandia Pueblo

In the “early” days, Sandia Pueblo maintained a bingo hall (with high stakes bingo) in a huge white tent. The furniture consisted of rickety folding tables and metal folding chairs, but the place was always packed. (I know this first hand because my wife would drag me to bingo whenever we were in Albuquerque).  When gaming came to the pueblos, Sandia  slowly  reduced the bingo, and kept squeezing in more slot machines and table games in the big white tent.  They added a few side rooms off the tent, but still the atmosphere and facility left much to the imagination. But it was always packed.  In 2001, to much fanfare, they opened the new $118 million casino.  Very impressive on the inside and outside. It has a buffet, restaurants, a bar, and a large open air amphitheater.  One unique feature, seldom seen in a casino, is a huge 120 foot glass wall facing the Sandia Mountains  behind the casino.  Breathtaking view.  If you find yourself near Albuquerque,  put this on your “must” list.
