Fishing Report for the Lease  2/23/03

This is the report that Jeff and I did from last weekend’s trip.

Water Flow Info:  48-52 degrees, clear, moderate flow

Insects: Small cream midges, lots of BWO nymphs and a few hatching

Location:  Rio Penasco (Fished the mid-to-upper part of the lease).

Successful Patterns:  Dark Green Estaz Buggers (#8); BH Caddis Olive (#16), Marabou Muddler (#8)

Tactics:  Fished the deep holes (more than 2 ft).   In the deeper holes, let the fly sink the entire tippet length on the drift and a slow retrieve

Totals:  half-a-dozen 10-15 inch rainbows and one 18" rainbow

Comments: In a couple of weeks the water is going to pop; browns will turn on and the bugs are going to be great.  The water is very different in a number of places following the flood last fall.
