General Notes: CENSUS: in 1790 Robert Cochran is listed in the town of Middletown,
Neversink area, then Ulster Co, NY. [he didn't move, the lines on the maps
did] *see Delaware county NY website or state census on-line.
Between 1800 and 1810 townlines changed a couple of times and Ulster
county was split up and Delaware and Sullivan counties were formed. By 1810
you can find the Cochran family in the town of Rockland, Sullivan county
census- just where they had been since arriving in the area.
Local history says that the first settler of the area was Jehiel Stewart
and family[wife was Rachel Williams] of Blandford +/- 1785,and that he was
followed by relatives and neighbors. Some of those names are: Cochran,
Kimball, Overton, Worden, Rose [my direct line], Sprague, Mott, Crippen,
Dodge and Grey. These families intermarried- they had to, it was a very
small place. I believe I'm related to most of them in one fashion or
another.
There is a short history of the town of Rockland on the Sullivan county
website, and some place a book with an extensive history of the family of
Levi Kimball that includes many of this bunch of folks.
If you are still interested I probably have more buried in my files.
Robert definitely had more children than the few in the family plot. And if
we all knew what Robert Jr did with the records of all the marriages he
performed we'd all be happier!!!

General Notes: details on Levi Cochran. Around 1805, his family, along
with several uncles and aunts and his grandmother, Rhoda Ferguson
Cochran, settled in Aurora, Ohio. His grandfather, John Cochran, had
died en route in Buffalo, N Y. and was buried there. According to "The History of Aurora, Ohio" by L. V. Bierce published in
the Portage Democrat 19 Mar 1856, John Cochran Sr. was the first white
person buried in Buffalo.

Conflict: Death date of Glass (NOT Amos Glass) Cochran shown in Bible as 1 September 1825. Basil Shannon has copies of an inventory of his possessions dated 26 November 1822, a declaration signed by Mehitable Cochran Widow of Glafs Cochran dated 13 November 1822 and a probate record dated 22 November 1823. Therefore, bible is wrong and he died in 1822.

Now it could be that it was, in fact, Amos Glass and he went by his middle name like I do (Basil instead of Clarence Basil). But I can't imagine using your middle name on all these legal documents shown above. I don't but have no idea what was the custom at that time either.

I contend that Amos and Glass were brothers but I have no Blanford source data about birth of the other son, Glass. Does anybody? His birth is listed in the Cochran Family Bible as 3 August 1764 however.

Therefore, in order to match the available source data, I have changed my database from AMOS GLASS to GLASS COCHRAN(JR.) (GLASS AMOS???????????????) and suggest that you do the same. We need to stay together on this so this controversy doesn't rage on for generations to come.

From Knox County History, published in 1988 by the Vincennes Historical and Antiquarian Society, Turner Publishing Co, Paducah, KY:

Early in 1804, Glss Amos and his family moved to Franklin Co., OH. He helped establish the first church in Worthington, OH. This St. John’s Episcopal Church was founded Feb. 6, 1804, and was the “Oldest Church West of the Alleghanies.” Glass Amos and two of his sons were soldiers in the War of 1812 and served from Franklin County, OH, Second Division, Fourth Brigade. Glass Amos was an Ensign and his sons were Privates. After the War, most of the family moved to Indiana. In 1820, Glass Amos and Mahitable, three sons and two daughters were in Knox County. Nathaniel and Harper were in Scott Co., IN. Glass Amos died Sept. 1, 1825 in Knox County, leaving his estate to his wife. Among his valuables was one Great Bible and other books. Some titles were: The Life of George Washington, Lewis and Clark’s Travels, Confession of Faith, American Wars, and a two years’ subscription to a magazine, plus more books on religion and devotions in the family. He is buried in Knox County.

Glass married Mehitable "Hitty" Fuller, daughter of Jacob Fuller and Lydia Royce, on 24 May 1789.⁵¹ Mehitable was born on 26 Jan 1767 in Ashford, Windham, CT and died on 19 Apr 1843 in Bleakwood Newton Co., TX^¹² at age 76.
