Disclaimer: Today, 12 Mar 2000, I've gotten what may be the first real breakthrough for me in this line. I'd posted on GenForum that Cousin George Stanley, formerly of near East Bank, WV, had told Cousin John Robert Corey he THOUGHT that the father of my great-grandpa George Washington Stanley was named Isaac. This week I've corresponded with Mrs. Terry Henderson (Indywm9284@aol.com) who sent much of the following information. While neither Terry nor I is completely sure we're on the right track, things seem to be shaping positively in that direction, and I share her data here to provide another place from which to research. There was also an obituary on that same page for George W. Stanley, 83,
died Friday (this notice appeared in the Charleston Daily Mail November
26, 1927); Mr. Stanley and his wife celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary eight years ago. He was born at Camp Piatte near Malden in
1844. Mr. Stanley is survived by the widow and three daughters, Miss Maude
Stanley of Campbell's Creek, Mrs. Thomas Grafton and Mrs. McDonald
Keeney of Charleston and one son George of Teays. He also leaves

[John M. Gwin NOTE:  Dan has GWS married twice as follows:   m1. 26 Dec 1865 to Margaret J. I have information that says Harris married Rachael about 1788 in Virginia.
They were living in Russell Co., Virginia, in 1787, prior to moving to East Tennessee.

Sorry to have been so long on this - been away from the computer working, etc.

Anyway, your great granfather George Washington Stanley son of Isaac Stanley who is the son of Harris Standley (the way he signed his marriage record) and Rachel Martin.

They were married in Bedford Co. VA.

I don't believe Sam and Reuben were their children nor Cariston - everyone else matches my records.

I really cannot connect Harris to the other Stanley families in Bedford Co. VA at the time - really wish I could for all of us.

Rachel is the daughter of Job Martin (he was in the Rev. War) and Elizabeth Huddleston.  Job had a sister Rachel who married a Huddleston in Bucks Co. PA and they all moved together to Bedford Co. VA - the information on Job's father is sketchy at best. Elizabeth Huddleston is from a long line of Huddleston's from Bucks Co. PA and her line is well documented if you have access to Rootsweb.com.

The irony of the name Harris Stanley is that there was another nearly the same age that has caused a lot of mixed information - also that both men named their first born son Page Stanley.  Yours went from Bedford Co. VA with the Martin/Huddleston clans into Kanawha Co. VA(WV) and is pretty well documented there.

     George Stanley says your great-great-great-grandfather Isaac Stanley from George's Creek was married to a Wince; what do you have on the Stanley/Wince lineage?  I'm going to search eventually to see what mom and her sister's Elizabeth and Eugenia used for their DAR membership, unless you already have that information.
