Why he was shown on the census as a bound boy is not clear.  Apparently Benjamin was the son of George Martin and Susan Buckle. He would have been a half brother to Eunice.]

Elizabeth Martin Feb. 13, 1823 in Kanawha Co.; 10 children were born to this couple; one, James A. Stanley b. abt. 1842 d. aft. 1880, married Mary W. Clark Dec. 14, 1865 in Kanawha Co. Their children, listed on the 1880 Kanawha census were:   Albert M. Stanley, Hubbard W. Stanley, Quincy D. Stanley, and Nancy E. Stanley Hubbard W. Stanley. b. April 10, 1870 Kanawha Co. d. July 9, 1950 ( buried Red Warrior Cemetery); married: Jennie Maxwell, between 1890-1893 in Kanawha Co. She was born March 17, 1867 in Pa or OH; d. November 3, 1944 in Kanawha Co (buried Red Warrior Cemetery).  Hubbard and Jennie appear on the census for Kanawha Co, Cabin Creek district,  East Bank town in 1900 and 1910.      FAYETTEVILLE - Clay Skaggs, 84, of Fayetteville died March 28,1998, in an Oak Hill hospital after a short illness.  He was retired from Union Carbide, Alloy. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II.
     Surviving: wife, Opal S. Skaggs; son, Kevin Brian Skaggs of Charleston; sisters, Marcella Gill of South Point, Ohio, Dolly Fox of Charleston, Lafalda Fox of Point Pleasant; one grandchild.

I am sending the information below.  No, I am not kin to the Stanleys that I know of at this point, but my sister who is in West Virginia told me on Saturday that it hasn't been too many years since George died.  This week is pretty full already, but I will go through some other papers and see if I can find anything else that may be helpful to you about the Stanleys.  George had a grocery store in Chesapeake for many years.

I just peeked at your web site and was excited to see some names there, such as Hamrick, Lemasters, and a few others that I can't recall from Saturday.  Will get back there soon I hope.

1.    Mrs. Bertha M. Stanley, 73, of Chesapeake (W.Va.), died Oct 6 1986, in Memorial Division, CAMC (Charleston Area Medical Center), after a short illness.  She was a member of Apostolic Church and attended Chesapeake Freewill Baptist Church.  She was a member of Chesapeake Senior Citizens, Rebekah Lodge and Chesapeake Woman's Club.  Surviving:  husband, George L.; sons, George L. Jr. of Woodsfield, Ohio, Wayne of Kernsville, NC, David of Chesapeake, Allen of Cooper City, Fl; daughters, Mrs. T. Jean Grindstaff of Elizabeth, Tenn., Mrs. Betty Jo Flowers of McConnell; sisters, Mrs. Ardella Johnson of Marmet, Mrs. Helen Callicoat of Richmond, VA, Mrs. Betty Slack and Mrs. Cora Rogers, both of Charleston; 12 Grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.  Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Chesapeake Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Kelley officiating.  Burial will be in Marmet Cemetery.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, and one hour prior to service at the church.

2.    Mrs. Mary Stanley- Service tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Bartlett Funeral Home by the Rev. N. W. Looney.  Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.  Mrs. Stanley, 79, of 11446 Kanawha Ave., Chesapeake (W.Va.), died Wednesday in a Charleston nursing home.  Included in the survivors are step-daughters, Mrs. Ella Wilson of Ripley, Mrs. Clara Long of Chesapeake and Mrs. Esther Morris of Marmet; stepsons, George of Ohio, John and Harry (Stanley) of Chesapeake, Fred of Chelyan, Joe of Paint Creek and Edward Stanley of Dry Branch (all in W.Va.)
(This would have been before Oct 1986, for the Charleston Newspapers were putting death day in the obituary as noted in Bertha's above.)

3.    Herbert Stanley, 72, of Acme (W.Va.), was found dead at home Sunday (penciled date 12/8/80).  The cause of death appeared to be natural, a state police spokesman said.  He was a native of Kayford (W.Va.) and a retired coal miner.  He was a former employee of Oglebay-Norton Coal Co., Acme, and was a member of the UMW (United Mine Workers).  Surviving:  wife, Mrs.Ella Pruitt Stanley; sons, Norman and Herbert Jr., both of Acme, Earl of Red Warrior, Kenneth of Flint, Mich., Charles of Ohley, Carl of Kayford, Gary of Flint, Mich; daughters, Mrs. Maxine Noble of Dawes, Mrs.Lela Mae Russell and Mrs. Charlotte Summers, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Carol Russell of Quarrier; sister, Mrs. Dorma Pettry of Kayford; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Kayford Baptist Church after 6 p.m. Tuesday.  Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank, is in charge of arrangements.

4.    Mrs. and Mrs. Herf Stanley of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Cabin Creek, (W.Va.) will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary today with a dinner at Rose City Cafeteria.  He is retired from Truas-Traer Coal Co.  She is the former Louise Clere.  Their children are Rexall of Orgas, John of Cedar Bluff, Va., Audrey Keeney of Eskdale, Bruce of Chesapeake, and Max of Chelyan.  They have 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
