The
WelCo Approach to Health & Wellness
Motivating people to start exercising, manage weight, quit
smoking, control blood pressure, eat healthier... it’s a job with a
lot of security. Why? Because it’s not easy changing habits ingrained
over decades. Until the last few years, health promoters often adopted a one-size-fits-all
approach, gearing programs to the people most ready to make a change. But
in the mid- 80s, researchers began observing similar stages of change across
most health behaviors.
Understanding these stages is the first step toward creating
effective services that move people toward long-term change. The key to successful
health promotion – having participants reach and stay in the maintenance
level – is to understand what stage they’re in, then tailor promotions
and interventions that move them in a positive health direction.
Program Delivery
Our delivery system is built on the four factors that influence health enhancement and adherence.
• Health Interests
• Readiness to Change
• Chronic Conditions
• Learning Preferences
With this information, we can determine which type of programming
best fits each individual or organization. WelCo provides behavior change
information tailored to individual readiness, along with dozens of resources
on specific health interests and chronic conditions – all matched to
the individual.

FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions
How do your programs differ from traditional wellness programs?
Most health promoters continue to design programs and services based on risk — whether they use national statistics or actual internal health risk and claims data — even though risk of illness or death is consistently proven a poor motivator for health improvement.
WelCo’s approach to collecting health and lifestyle information doesn’t calculate health risk levels or generate individual participant reports. Instead, the focus is on personal interests, readiness to change, and preferences — so we can concentrate the right resources, on the right intervention, at the right time.
In addition, our stage-matched approach to wellness allows
us to offer:
• Affordable health data collection
• Targeted program planning and resources
• Tailored health interventions
• Efficient program delivery
We already have a wellness program in place that involves health risk
assessments and educational tools. What can you add that would enhance our existing program?
We can monitor changes in health screening data such as blood pressure, weight
and cholesterol through our Health Activity Tracker. Our tracking system is
integrated with our incentive management program which gives participants
points for performance and recognition for reaching health goals.
Industry research and WelCo's own client experience have proven
that the greater the level of incentive, the greater the program participation.
High participation increases the chances of success in modifying risky health
behaviors and reducing healthcare costs.
What type of program evaluation and reporting do you provide?
WelCo can show you exactly how your decision to improve the
health status of your group positively affects your organization's financial
wellbeing. WelCo flexible tracking and measuring capabilities allows us to
report on number of individuals participating, how selected groups compare
with others, and how many are improving their health.
In addition, we can
monitor changes in health screening data such as blood pressure, weight and
cholesterol. WelCo’s tracking system is integrated with our incentive
management program which gives points for performance and proving recognition
for reaching goals. Trends in group activity tracking, including whether participation
is increasing and/or decreasing, the number of participants meeting goals,
and which events are most popular can be evaluated.
