Taos

The Town of Taos has a rich and colorful history. The Town was incorporated as a municipality in May of 1934. Its history, however, began long before that. Indians began to build Taos Pueblo in the 1400’s, Europeans discovered Taos in 1540, and the King of Spain declared Taos a village in 1615. Taos, a community overflowing with history, culture, and heritage, has seen many faces. It has been a quite village with its roots of agriculture; it has also seen the infamous gun fighters of the Wild West pass through its streets. Taos has been a sanctuary for countless people who have come looking for a more peaceful way of life.
