John William's operatic score
for the first Star Wars film is one of his fullest and best scores for
the movies. Disc 1 Starts out with the classic 20th Century Fox Fanfare,
then we are greeted with classic Williams, the opening Star Wars main title/Rebel
Blockade Runner, easily being one of the most memorable film tunes ever
(except for William's Jaws). The underlying themes are woven with flair
and brilliance, evoking suspense, wonder and thrills. Titles such as "Landspeeder
Search/Attack of the Sand People" and "Tales of a Jedi Knight/Learn About
the Force" are all presented in the bold, thundering, yet poetic Williams
Modus Operandi. The Cantina Band tracks are great too. Disc 2 goes into
dark and exciting territory with "Tractor Beam/Chasm Crossfire", "Ben Kenobi's
Death/Tie Fighter Attack" and "The Battle of Yavin." Then to round it off
nicely, we go full circle with the last track seamlessly blending into
the well-known bombastic Star Wars theme music. This is a truly great soundtrack. |

The charms of Richard Donner's
take on the Man of Steel was blessed with many superlative artistic efforts,
above which one towers: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated
music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall
heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements.
Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version,
supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate
takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this
is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. |

Put on your
3-D glasses (included) and bust a gut to the vaguely 3-D, headache-inducing
comic of an Archie spoof of the Vinnie and the Stardusters' story.
The kit includes trading cards and a 7 inch 45rpm of a spoof of Jobim's
bossa nova classic and on the flip is the Radio K hit spoof of "Que Sera
Sera" as "Quesadilla (a Tortilla with Cheez)." Already the single has gone
tin! (more than 500 copies sold) And has been included on two (count them)
compilations in Japan. |

About the Authors
Born in the ghetto of the
South Side of Minneapolis, these three gutterpunks learned the laws of
the street. While their mission of knocking on crackhouses to sing an a
cappella version of their first hit "Huggin' not Druggin'" went sour when
the Minneapolis Police threw them in the can for trespassing.
In prison, the three "honkeys"
learned all about jailhouse rock. As soon as they got out of the big house,
bigtime record execs were dying to put their groovy hip-hop rhythms down
and out to the world. Now the Stard'sters flaunt their success with large
clocks around their necks. They may lack liberal arts, but they got that
street smarts! |

"Not
just because Vinnie and the Stardusters rhyme 'preheated' with 'eat it,'
the album's best track is 'Bake My Pie."

"The
most remarked upon dish, however, would have to be the mocking pseudo-cover
of the Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry' by Vinnie & the Stardusters--reimagined
as 'Bake My Pie'"
Fred
Mills, Magnet
"Parodies
wear thin unless the objet du scorn really deserves it; clearly, Robert
Smith and the Cure really, really deserve it. Too left field for Weird
Al, enter this Minneapolis jokebox, which microwaves 'Boys Don't Cry' until
it explodes like the proverbial wet poodle. Just wait'll you hear the electronica/jungle
version on the flip."

"The
funniest entry on the album is Vinnie and the Starduster's 'Bake My Pie'--a
hilarious spoof of the Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry."

"You
need to have this. This is definitely the one seven inch every collection

"[Woodring]
is an original surrealist. Rich and universal, his work is unequalled by
anything in comics since George Herriman's Krazy Kat."
- World Art
The cartoonist Jim Woodring
- creator of the bestselling surrealist comic adventures of the anthropomorph
Frank - and legendary jazz guitarist/Nonesuch recording artist Bill Frisell
have collaborated to create this unique multimedia storybook for the ages.
Reminiscent of a Little Golden
Book, this full-color, hardcover storybook spotlights the playful eponymous
pachyderm-like creature who wants nothing to do but play with his colorful
bouncing ball. Unfortunately, there are menacing forces conspiring against
him! With one full-color painting per page, and no words, Woodring has
crafted a masterfully compelling yet simple narrative of innocence and
fear that will inspire multiple re-readings by children and adults for
years to come.
The accompanying CD will
come packaged inside the book in a custom pocket. Frisell's ambient and
ethereal jazz soundtrack creates a remarkable aural tension that perfectly
complements Woodring's eye-poppingly vibrant and colorful landscapes. The
result is a wonderful gift item for fans of quality children's literature,
fine art and comic books, not to mention the many music lovers whom will
invariably make this a highly sought-after Frisell collectible.
