| The Dreaming
PVC set, along with the Endless PVC set, are definitely the best of their
type currently available from DC Direct. The set contains seven of the
key characters from the realm of the Sandman, including both Cain, the
host of "House of Mystery" and Abel, the host of "House of Secrets" (the
latter with Goldie perched on his fez). Also pictured are Daniel, Eve,
Lucien, Merv and Nuala. These full-color figures offer great details and
range in height from 2 3/4" to 4 1/4" tall. You might think these PVC sets
are only good for superhero groups from the JLA and the Metal Men to the
Legion of Superheroes (see below). But DC Direct has shown they can cater
to the more esoteric comic creations as well. Fans of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman"
comics are going to want both of these sets. |

| The two best
PVC sets from DC Direct celebrate the 10th anniversary of Neil Gaiman's
"Sandman." The Endless PVC Set provides all seven of the Endless figures:
Dream, Death, Destiny, Desire, Delirium, Despair, and Destruction. A nice
touch is that the bases are interlocking to create one, uh, endless display.
The figures have marvelous details, not to mention expressions on their
faces, and range in height from 1 1/2" to 4". Along with the Dreaming PVC
set, this collection will be very appealing to fans of Gaiman's comic book,
which has offered one of the most sophisticated and complex narratives
in the field (how many comic books needed annotation?). |

| The Flash and
the rest of his fast friends have been treated fairly well by the people
at DC Direct. The "Flash PVC set" includes the Silver Age Flash (Barry
Allen), the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick), the Modern Age Flash (Wally
West), Max Mercury (Max Crandal, a.k.a. Quick Silver), Impulse (Bart Allen),
Johnny Quick and Jesse Quick. Obviously we are missing Kid Flash, but since
Wally West became the Modern Age Flash (replacing his Uncle Barry, the
Silver Age Flash), it is hard to really complain. Plus Kid Flash is in
the Teen Titans PVC set. Anyhow, it is the three Flash figures that make
this one attractive to fans of the Fastest Man on Earth. The seven figures
range in height form 3 1/4" to 4 1/2" and come packaged in a two-tiered
4-color window box. |

| This is one
of the best DC Direct PVC Sets because the Metal Men are all given a lot
more attitude than you will find on most others. The Metal Men were created
in the laboratory of the brilliant Dr. Will Magnus, who fitted his robots
with the revolutionary Responsometer, which gave them human emotions. The
properties of the elements played a large role in "The Metal Men" comic
books. This set of full-color, hand-painted figures includes the good Doctor,
the brilliant Gold, the powerful Iron, the hot-headed Mercury, the shy
Tin, the dull-witted Lead, and the vivacious Platinum. Because these figures
are done to scale relative to each other, they range in size form 2.25"
to 4" tall. |

For some incomprehensible reason, neither Robin nor Nightwing are included
in with this set. Instead, Raven's demonic father, the villain Trigon,
is substituted. Having Raven was a nice touch, as she was one of the original
"new" Teen Titans, but Nightwing (or Robin) still should have been here
instead of Daddy Dearest (even if he is one of the better looking figures
in the set). Except for Robin, all of the original "New Teen Titans" are
included: Starfire, Cyborg, Wonder Girl, Raven, Kid Flash, and Changeling.
Plus Trigon. These full-color, hand-painted figures have their own display
stand and two of them are a little bit bigger than the standard 4" size
for these figures. |
