Date: November 08, 2006Sallie Tipton was the daughter of Isom Gwin Tipton and Mary Murr, so her maiden name was Tipton.
We found records of birth of the twins--Maud & Claud--that list their father as Cornelius Grabil--but we can find no marriage records for Sallie and Cornelius.
The only marriage that we can find records of was to John Deaton--so we have no record of who was the father of the other children.]

http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/1878/crawford.shtml The Crawford County News, "Reform," was first published at Girard, August 6, 1875, by T. P. Fulton and C. G. Covell. November 19, 1875. George W. Tipton was added to the firm, the style then being Tipton, Fulton & Covell. February 17, 1876, Fulton retired from the firm, and the paper thereafter became Democratic. March 19, 1876, Covell sold to H. C. Brandon, and the firm became Tipton & Brandon, and continued the paper until November 2, 1876, when J. W. Lamoreaux become a partner. Tipton sold his interest to Lamoreaux, March 22, 1877, who conducted the paper until June 21, 1877, when Tipton bought out Lamoreaux, and carried on the business for a time. September 27, 1877, Tipton resigned the editorial control to Jacob S. Moore, but resumed it again after the campaign. February 7, 1878, H. S. Kline and W. M. Clarke, as Kline & Clarke, purchased the paper, and Kline became editor. On April 1, following, Clarke sold out to Kline, and the latter continued the paper until July 20, 1878, when E. R. Ridgley purchased it, changed its politics to "National," but retained Kline as editor. September 5, 1878, Ridgley and Kline retired from the establishment, the former having sold it to R. T. Root, of Burlington, Iowa, who leased it to J. J. Hadley, of Wyandotte.

The following table for the descendents of Isom Gwin Tipton aligns data from different sources. It is of note here that in the 1860 Indiana Census there were two different Benjamin L. Tiptons, each about age 5: one was in Clark Co. and the son of Johnathan and Elizabeth Tipton, the other in Harrison Co. and the son of Isom and Mary Tipton. Some of the following researchers, evidently not aware of this, have inadvertantly mixed the two. It is the intent of this page to report the descendants of Virginia Jane Gwin Tipton Weathers, to include the family of the latter of these Benjamin L. Tiptons.

Dear JohnMy 4x great grandmother was Virginia Jane Gwin who married Benjamin Weathers through their son Warden Weathers to his daughter Eliza Weathers, who is also buried here in Sonoma County, California, who was my 2x great grandmother who married Henry Goss in Indiana. My mother’s grandmother was their daughter Ida Grace Goss, who married Commodore Dock Rogers. My grandfather was Charles Allen Rogers the first born child of Ida and Dock. My mother was the seventh child of ten born to Charles and Annie Thompson Rogers. My mother was Jewell Joyce Rogers born 1925 in Oklahoma.
My great grandmother Ida told me that we were related some how to the Lincoln family. She also told me that when they moved from Indiana to New Mexico when she was about seven years of age that her father Henry Goss shot three wild Indians off the roof of their sod house and loaded them up in a wagon and took them to town to show them off or collect a bounty if one was available.
Thanks again for the wonderful website.
Thank You,
Dana Kitchens

In Reply to: Re: Isom T., b. ca. 1870, Crawford Co., IN by Tina Mitchell of 3154 GoGreetings, Cousin!
Glad to have you aboard! Please allow me to "take you back a ways"--at least to where we connect:http://www.zianet.com/jmcdgwin/gwinVAtiptonweathers.htm
Your Isom Gwin Tipton is the son of Virginia Jane Gwin and Joseph Tipton, both of the Crowson's Cove area of Sevier and Blount counties, Tennessee. Virginia's dad, Isham Gwin, is your Isom's grandfather and my own gggg-grandfather. That makes your Isom Gwin Tipton my own first cousin--four generations removed, that is! And so you and I will likely be fifth cousins or fourth-cousins-once-removed, depending on how far below Isom Gwin Tipton you are.
You probably have lots of downline info we don't have yet, so I'm really looking forward to hearing more from you on this, Tina--I love meeting "new" family!
:-)
Best to you, "new" cousin,
In Jesus,
John Gwin
