The updating of the numbering system used on this page has been completed.
Generation 28 is my own;
27 is that of my parents; 29 is that of my children, etc.  --   John M. Gwin, Mar 2009

John Gwin Notes: My fourth cousin, Jo Goodwin, has sent in just under a ton of family data on William Henry's line below! Info uniquely from her appears in this dark turquoise color.

I've also added some descendants of Velma Wilson Dallas sent in by her great-granddaughter, Molly Dallas.  Thanks, Molly!

In March, 2009, Jo sent more data on Velma Mae Wilson's descendants, some of which has been added in this green color.
For more on these families, please contact Jo. [gwyrosejoatyahoodotcom]

This photo was in the family photo album that Cousin Barbara Ward inherited.
The album's index indicates that the photo in the 11B position is that of
Joseph Jones Abernathy Wilson.
Barbara and I now believe that this is indeed Joseph's picture.

Tonight, 9 Oct 2002, another cousin, Jo Goodwin, found the site and checked in!    E.mail her at gwyrosejo@yahoo.com (Thanks so much for writing, Jo! :-)  Her e.mail says:
I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to find your pages of information on our common ancestors. To give you a little background on my side of our family, it is from Nathaniel and Jane Wilson down: Joseph A. and Mary E.'s oldest son William Henry, who was in White or Pulaski County, AR, when Nathaniel died, to his daughter Ida Francis who married William Wylie Dunn, to my mother Marietta Martha Dunn who married George Fredrick Goodwin, to me, Marietta Jo Goodwin.

The family broke up when my mother was a very small child, and she and her sister were raised in separate orphanages, the boys by families in White Co. She did know her parents before they died, but no one knew much info on the grandparents, and I'm still trying to find where they are buried. But I contacted Patty in Mississippi, and she gave me some names, and here I am at your site! Finally, a family for my Wilson line!! I am also still working on my contemporaries but would be glad to share what I have with you. Have you  been able to put the photos on line? I have a picture of William H. and his wife Sarah Francis Penn, as well as others, if you would be interested.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Your new cousin,
Jo

Jo and I are fourth cousins, as you can see here. Her kids and my kids are 5th cousins to each other, and our respective grandchildren are 6th cousins to each other.

A, p. 103) to Mary E. High (b. ca. 1835 in AL; age 24 in the Aug 1860 census but age 46 in 1880; d. after 1880; bd. unk.); 4 known children;

Meet the four known children of Joseph Jones Abernathy Wilson and Mary E. High Wilson:

25.01--William Henry "Willie" Wilson, b. Aug 1852 in Selma, Dallas Co. or Shelby Co., AL(ages 7 and 68 in the 1860 and 1920 censuses, respectively); d. after 1920 [JMG Note: but d. at least after 1920 census, age 68]; bd. unk. place in AR.; m. unk. date/place to Sarah "Sally" Frances Penn, b. Nov 1857.

25.02--Texana Wilson, b. ca. 1856 (age 4 in the 1860 census, 14 in the 1870, but age/DOB listed in the 1900 as 45--Sep 1854); d. unk.; bd. unk.; m. unk.; unk. ch.;

25.03--Reuben Wilson, a minor over 14 and under 21, residing in Dallas Co., AL, b. ca. 1858 (age 2 in the 1860 census); d. unk.; bd. unk.; m. unk.; unk. ch.;

25.04--George Wilson, a minor over 14 and under 21, residing in Dallas Co., AL (b. after Aug 7 1860--see below--and no later than 1862, since over age 14 in 1876)

And here they are in more detail:

25.01--William Henry "Willie" Wilson, b. Aug 1852 in Selma, Dallas Co. or Shelby Co., AL (ages 7 and 68 in the 1860 and 1920 censuses, respectively); d. Sat., 16 Jan 1937 [JMG Note: Until May 2006, we only knew it was after the 1920 census, age 68; now, however, we know more--see email (third note)--and now his obituary--below]; bd. Mon., 18 Jan 1937 at Cypress Cem., Vilonia, AR; m. 6 Feb 1876 in Faulkner Co., AR, to Sarah "Sally" Frances Penn, b. Nov 1857; d. unk., but bef. Jan. 1837 (or else she would've been listed as a survivor in his obit).
[JMG Note: He is my (John M. Gwin's) first cousin thrice removed, i.e., my great-grandfather William Sutton Gwin's first cousin. Jo Goodwin, below, my fourth cousin who provided most of this data and all of these pictures, is William's and Sarah's great-granddaughter. We speculate that his father, Joseph, did not survive the decade--perhaps was killed in the Civil War--and that his mother, Mary, could not support the family by herself.  Lending support to this theory is the 1870 census, in which William Henry was listed as being 18 years of age and living with the family of his father's brother, Ezekiel Monroe Wilson, in Pence's Beat, Dallas Co., AL; his sister, Texana Wilson, 14, was living with the family of her father's sister, RoseAnn Carlisle Jones Wilson Gwin, in Wilsonville, Shelby Co., AL; and their mother Mary, 35, and two younger brothers, Reuben, 12, and George, 9, were three of the six "inmates" of the "Poorhouse" in Cahaba, Dallas Co., AL, the proprietor of which was Louisa High Basset, who has all but for certain turned out to be Mary's older sister.]

[Jo Goodwin NOTES:  "'General Land Office at Little Rock, AR  ...pursuant to the Act of ---,  approved 20th May 1862, To make Homestead to actual settlers on the  public domain' ...William H. Wilson has been established and duly  commissioned conformity to have for the East half of the NE Quarter Section 23, in Township 8 South, Range 12 W in the Dist of Lands surrounding to sale at Little Rock Ar, Containing 80 acres - signed J. Ulysses S. Grant, President of the US etc. Homestead Cert #361,  Application 1499."

This shows he homesteaded land in Pulaski Co, AR--was it for military service of his father from the Civil War?  Called "Uncle Willie" by most people, he was a very friendly man. He made wood furniture, mostly lawn furniture, and prank items from wood. He was known for making a wooden birthday cake, taking it to a person who was having a birthday and watching with delight as they tried to cut into it. He also made a wooden walking cane with colorful marbles in the handle and a pipe--like a bubble pipe--with a windmill on it. He'd  tell someone to blow it to make the windmill turn and it would blow powder in their face, and he would laugh and laugh.  He was living with Elphus and Velma Dallas, his daughter in 1920 but they moved to Black Oak/Caraway region of Arkansas, and Velma says he died there, but Henry Stocks, his friend, says he died in Little Rock while living with his son William Arthur.  I rather doubt that he was living with Arthur, as family stories of that relationship were of a less than desirable situation. Reager Lee Wilson says he thinks the family came from Sumter/Shelby Co., AL, around Wilsonville, but I have not proven this. He also says they visited Georgia many times, but he can't remember what the family name was they visited.  Info from Patty Taylor proves our direct line was in Dallas Co, AL, but also Joseph lived with his sister in Shelby Co, AL, for a time as did his daughter Texana, so there was some truth in what Reager remembered.]

Hi Cousins, and HALLELUJAH!!!!!! EUREKA, I HAVE FOUND IT!!
Well, to be honest, not I but another woman whom I asked to search some local records for me, found the information on William Henry Wilson’s death!  She is going to send me a copy of the article, but gave me enough info from it to make sure it was the one I was seeking. He died in 1937 and according to that article was buried at Cypress Valley Cem. in Faulkner Co, AR (where many of the Wilson family are buried!) Evidently he has no stone as I’ve walked that cemetery over and over looking for both Wilson and Dunn family members and would have noticed that one for sure. I haven’t been there in about 4 yrs, but am going again this fall when it gets cooler, you can bet!! I will send you copies of this info when she sends it to me. She was wanting to be sure it was what I wanted before she sent it--can’t tell you how thrilled I was to get her msg.
More info as I receive it ?
God Bless,
Jo

[Jo Goodwin Notes:   Story goes that Will was playing cards with the county judge, sheriff, etc. and thought he killed either the sheriff or judge, when he thought they were cheating. He lit out, abandoning his family. Later, he did  find four of his children, two others having previous died accidental deaths. (According to Ida's hospital record, she gave birth to seven children, but I have not found records for another child.) Will attempted to reconcile with his children and to a degree was successful. He moved to Caldwell, MO, for a while, married Mattie Counts Burks and lived with her for a while. After that marriage failed, he moved to the Mt. Springs community where he lived the remainder of his life. He was killed by his cousin, Harvey Stevens, at Mt. Springs community--hit in the head with a hoe one night as he came in from town, after being out drinking. Harvey was mentally impaired, and Will had taken him in to live with him, but Harvey did not like Will drinking. We still do not know if he knew it was Will Dunn that he killed, or if he thought he was "protecting" the property.]

[Jo Goodwin Note: Interesting story of just how that picture (above, left) came to be.  Mom (Mareda) had saved and saved and finally had enough to change it into a quarter when her older sister, Lola, brought their mom, Ida, to visit one time.  Lola took Marietta and Ida shopping, and there was one of those picture booths that take your picture for a quarter.  Mom and Ida had their picture taken, and that was the one Mom saved--the only picture I have of Ida where you can really see her face.  Mom said Lola was really upset that they had spent the quarter on something so silly as a picture, but they were both happy about it, as they each had one of the pictures.  I don't know what happened to Ida's, but Mom later took hers and had it enlarged to 3x5, and I have it.]

[Jo Goodwin Note 1: There were two birth certificates for mom, as no one really knew exactly when she was born, because there was a fire in the orphanage, so they "guessed" at her birthday. Her father told the story that she was born the same night as twin bull calves were born, in the cold but couldn't remember exactly when that was.  Mom remembered being taken from her mother when  the county/state social worker came and took her and Lola to the orphanages, one to Little Rock and one to Hot Springs orphanages. The boys ran and were successful in evading the social workers. When Lola got old enough and was out of the orphange, she was successful in getting Mom moved to Little Rock orphange so the family members could see her. She eventually saw Bill and Lois (Bud) and even her parents before they died. Mom worked in various jobs--laundry, bread factory, etc., and by the grace of God was finally taken in by Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw in North Little Rock.  I believe this extremely hard work when she was so young (13 when she ran away from the orphange, lied about her age and worked until they figured out she wasn't of age) and lack of adequate food contributed to her early death. Family was very important to her, and we tried to find her aunts/uncles/cousins before her death and did find a few. Now, with the discoveries facilitated by Patty Taylor and John Gwin, we have her family.]

W. R. McClure, also known as Richard, Springfrog, Mac and Moose, passed away peacefully in the McClellan Veterans Hospital, Little Rock, AR, surrounded by his family today.  Born in Russellville, AR, to David Bowen McClure and Wilma Jeanette LaVasque McClure, he shared many stores of his life’s adventures as well as his vast knowledge of Native American History with all who were interested.   He was extremely proud of his Indian blood as anyone who talked to him for two seconds became aware of quickly.  His knowledge and ability to share the history of many tribes was legendary among the Nations.

Mac joined the Navy his senior year of high school and served his country proudly for many years until an accident left him hearing impaired. When he returned to Arkansas, he worked several jobs and lived several places before settling in Dardanelle with his small engine and bicycle business.  He was the proud father of three sons, Scott, Shiloh and Reese and loving companion of 18 years to Jo Goodwin.  His sister, Suzanne McClure Cole and niece, Shannon Cole Bailey (Rich), all of Dardanelle, completed his close family.  His extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends were many. His enjoyment in building the round house for him and Jo was evident when you talked with him as was his pride in his sons.  While he didn’t get to live in the new home, I plan to enjoy it for him and have family and friends in to show them his masterpiece.

Mac was diagnosed with cancer almost two years ago and has been in the V.A. hospital for over a month.  He will be cremated and his ashes scattered at his home in Wildcat Hollow.  There will be no funeral service.  I will be moving into our new home in the near future.

Your prayers and good thoughts were and are appreciated as we go through the adjustment period to maintain the proud heritage he left for us.

The family of W. R. McClure

Gwin Note:  According to a Lochridge letter, in the 1880 Shelby AL census, Texana Wilson, 25, is living with her first cousin Mary Ann Elizabeth Gwin Lochridge's family.  This would have made her age nineteen or twenty at the probate of her grandfather's (Nathaniel Burdine Wilson) will on 12 Nov 1875.  And since she was residing in Dallas Co. (not Shelby) in 1875 at this probate, likely she is with her brother at the home of her uncle Ezekiel.]

According to father's will, Ezekiel Monroe Wilson was in Arkansas by 1874, Pulaski, White Co. I've not found in 1880 census as of 18 Oct 2003. However, I did find record of a marriage for E. M. Wilson, 52 to R. C. Williams 45 on 31 Oct 1878 in Lonoke/Pulaski Co, AR. Marriage records.  This could be Ezekiel Monroe Wilson's 2nd marriage.

I found Joseph in the 5 Nov 1850 1850 census of Cahaba Beat, Dallas Co., AL, for residence #547, living with his uncle Will Gwin and aunt Roe:

William Guinn (sic) 29 M Carpenter $800 AL This is William Gwin, John Gwin's great-great grandfather.
 Roseman (sic) " 28 F . . AL This is Roseanne "Roe" Carlisle Jones Wilson Gwin
Elizabeth          " 7 F . . AL This is Mary Ann Elizabeth Gwin, bride-to-be of Robert Guy Lochridge, with whom Texana, Joseph J. A. Wilson's only daughter, would be living in the 1870 and (I understand)1880 censuses.
William            " 3 M . . AL This is William Sutton Gwin, John Gwin's great grandfather, who would marry Ida Eliza Basset and become a Justice of the Peace in Wilsonville, Shelby County.
Joseph Wilson 20 M Carpenter . AL This is Joseph Jones Abernathy Wilson, Jo Goodwin's great-great-grandfather, who would marry Mary E. (nee unk) in about two years and start his family.  Perhaps he is living with William to learn the trade.  It is noteworthy here that residing next door to Will and Roe on this date is Will's widowed brother-in-law, Joseph Basset, and his second wife, Louisa Catherine "Kitty" High Blann Basset, and living with them is a Mary High, who happens to be five years younger than Joseph Wilson. [The Dallas County Marr. Records, Bk., A, p. 103, lists Mary E. High and Joseph J. Wilson as marrying on 9 Oct 1851.]  It could be that this is the same person as the W. J. Wilson (the "W" could be a transcription error) listed in the "Roster of the Cahaba Rifles" as follows in A. G. Fry's book Memories of Old Cahaba, p. 122:   "No. 169.  Wilson, W. J.   Enlisted April 10, 1861, at Cahaba, by Capt. C. C. Pegues, for one year; elected fourth corporal  April 27, 1862; killed in battle at Chancellorsville May 3, 1863."
Charles Farr 18 M Carpenter . AL This person was perhaps also apprenticing from William.  It is suspected that this is the same Charles Farr listed in the "Roster of the Cahaba Rifles" as follows in A. G. Fry's book Memories of Old Cahaba, p. 112:   "No. 61.  Charles Farr.  Enlisted March 10, 1862, at Cahaba, by Capt. C. C. Pegues, for three years; killed in battle June 27, 1862, at Cold Harbor, Va."

As stated in the above Comment for Joseph, in the same 1850 census living next door (residence #548) is someone who is all but certain Joseph's bride-to-be:

Joseph Bassett 28 M Carpenter $1500 England This is Joseph Lavalette Basset, John Gwin's great-great granduncle and widower of William Gwin's sister, Maryann"Ann" Gwin.
Louisa     " 28 F . . SC This is Louisa Catherine High (widow of Sandford Blann), second wife of Joseph.
Emily       " 6 F . . AL This is Mary Ann Emily Basset, bride-to-be of G. Thomas Macon (who would become a successful commercial builder in the Dallas, Texas, area); many of their descendants still live there.
Margaret R."  1 F . . AL This is Margaret Revel Basset, mentioned in the diary of Rev. James Cotten, as having been baptised by him on sunday, 21 Apr 1850, some seven months before this 5 Nov 1850 census was taken.  Margaret never married, living until 18 Dec 1903.  I found the name Revel mentioned with the name Basset in France, so perhaps this is the source of this name.
Mary High 15 F Carpenter . AL This is Mary High (speculated to be the YOUNGER SISTER OF  Louisa Basset--see three lines above) who happens to be five years younger than and living next door to Joseph Wilson, who in just two years would be married to a Mary E. High--I SPECULATE that Joseph's Mary E. (perhaps the E. is for Elizabeth) and Mary High ARE ONE AND THE SAME. [Sure enough, the Dallas County Marriage Records, Bk. A, p. 103, list Mary E. High and Joseph J. Wilson as marrying on 9 Oct 1851!]
Henry Bridger 19 M Carpenter . England This is the young man who came to America from England with Joseph Basset.  He never married, living a long life which ended in Georgia.

88/85 Louisa Basset 43 F Keeping the Poor House AL This is Louisa Catherine (nee High) Blann Basset (first the widow of Sandford Blann and now the second wife and widow of Joseph Basset) who, perhaps as 20 years before, once again has taken in her younger sister Mary.
 . Henry Basset 14 M at home AL It is interesting to me that in July of 1870 Henry is here in Cahawba with his mother, yet earlier that same year he was living in Wilsonville with his aunt Roe and uncle Will Gwin and working at the sawmill (see next census chart, below).  He is in the 1870 census twice!
. John Basset 11 M at home AL .
89/86 Mary Wilson 35 F Inmate of the Poor House AL Mary E. (nee High) Wilson,  Joseph Jones Abernathy Wilson's widow and Jo Goodwin's gg-grandmother, is here in Cahawba still , living with two of her children, Reuben and George.  Her other two children, Texas and William, are elsewhere: Texas is fourteen and living with her aunt Roe (Wilson) and uncle Will Gwin in Wilsonville (see chart below); William is probably the same W. H. Wilson, 18, who is living in the home of Joseph Wilson's brother Ezekiel Wilson (see chart second below). From N. B. Wilson's probate hearing it is clear that at least by 1875, William and Sarah are married and living in White Co., Arkansas, where Jo Goodwin still lives today (see Notes and Comments below).
. Reuben Wilson 12 M Inmate of the Poor House AL This is Reuben Wilson; at or about the turn of the century, he'll begin calling himself Rufus Wilson.
. George Wilson 9 M Inmate of the Poor House AL This is George Wilson; we're still looking for him and his descendants.

U.S. Census of Shelby Co., Alabama, Wilsonville, 1870
[NOTE:  Surname is Guinn on the census, but John's, William's, and other Gwins' gravestones each clearly say GWIN in photos.]     Family No. 3:

John Gwin's Notes and Comments
William Guinn 49 M Manufacturer $2,000 $3,000 AL William Gwin, son of John and Jane Walker Gwin, and my gg-grandfather.
Rosanna Guinn 48 F Keeping House . . AL Rosann Carlisle Jones Wilson Gwin, sister of Joseph Abernathy Jones Wilson and aunt of Texas (8 lines below)
John W. Guinn 18 M Sawyer . . AL John would become a doctor, die in Anniston in 1877, and be buried in Wilsonville.
Rufus K. Guinn 16 M Works in saw mill . . AL See note below on Annie Turner.
Lucy M. Guinn 14 F Attends school . . AL Lucy would die two years later and be buried in Wilsonville.
Isham G. Guinn 12 M Attends school . . AL .
Thomas Guinn 9 M Attends school . . AL Thomas would die in 1877 of pneumonia and be buried in Wilsonville.
John Guinn 77 M Wheel (w)right . . TN Widower of Jane Walker Gwin.  John Gwin will die in 1877 and be buried in Wilsonville.
Annie Turner 19 F Attends school . . AL Annie:  We know that Rufus King Gwin (16 May 1853 - 20 Aug 1927) married an Ann Turner. If this is the Annie Turner who is living at the William Gwin home in this 1870 census, then she is very likely the oldest child (excluding Walter Roark) of Rufus King's Aunt Mary--i.e., Mary Gwin, William's older sister, widow of Drury Roark, and bride of second husband Mr. Turner on 17 May 1849--this date would make Mary Gwin Roark Turner's firstborn about 19 in the 1870 census, the exact age of this Annie Turner.  It would also mean Rufus and Ann were first cousins. We know that Mary's first husband Drury Roark died when their only child, Walter, was just 3 or 4; we know Walter himself was killed at Gettysburg in 1863; and we know that Annie was living with Will and Roe in 1870.  Could Mr. Turner have also died and Mary just not been able to handle it?  Could Mary also have died, leaving Annie as an orphan?  Aha!  Today (25 Oct 2001) I see from the 1850 census that indeed, Mary and Abel Turner's daughter IS named Anna, who is listed as 4 months old on Nov. 7, 1850, when the census was taken!
Texas A. Wilson 14 F Attends school . . AL Texas:  Why she is living in Wilsonville with her aunt and uncle instead of in Cahawba with her mother and brothers is unknown to me.  Clearly her father is out of the picture, likely having died in the Civil War, and her mother, Mary, as a war widow was not able to care for all the kids, perhaps farming out as many of the older ones as she could to trusted relatives.
According to Dallas County Courthouse Probate Court file #65,  on 12 Nov 1875, Joseph A. Wilson, a son of N.B. Wilson, had died before his father and left a "widow and four children, to wit:
3.1--William Wilson, over 21 and residing in Pulaski, White Co., AR
3.2--Texana Wilson, a minor over 14 and under 21, residing in Dallas Co., AL, part of the family household
3.3--Reuben Wilson, a minor over 14 and under 21, residing in Dallas Co., AL, b. ca. 1858 (age 2 in the 1860 census); d. unk.; bd. unk.; m. unk.; unk. ch.;
3.4--George Wilson, a minor over 14 and under 21, residing in Dallas Co., AL (b. after Aug 7 1860--see below--and no later than 1862, since over age 14 in 1876)"
According to a Lochridge letter (click link this sentence), ten years later in the 1880 Shelby Co., AL census, Texana Wilson, 25, is living with her first cousin Mary Ann Elizabeth Gwin Lochridge's family.  This would have made her age nineteen or twenty at the above Probate on 12 Nov 1875.
Henry Bassett 13 M Works in saw mill . . AL This is the son of Joseph and Louisa who, just weeks later, is back in Cahawba with his mother and brother.
Mathew (?) Taylor 36 F At home . . SC Likely this is MRS. Mathew Taylor, widow, who has been taken in with her daughter, below, by Will and Roe Gwin
Annie Taylor  9 F . . . AL See note above.
Robert Lochridge  36 M Laborer . . MO Robert Guy Lochridge, husband of Will and Roe's oldest daughter.
Mary A. Lochridge  26 F At home . . AL Mary Ann Elizabeth Gwin Lochridge, Will and Roe's oldest child and new bride of Robert (see note above).
John Lochridge  1 M . . . AL Robert and Mary's oldest, Johnny.
Eliz. Laurince  25 F School teacher . . AL Unknown resident, likely another war widow taken in by Will and Roe.

Hi John,  I have been doing some research at work and didn’t have access to other resources to see if you already have this info, so will send it just in case you don’t.
I have found the children of Joseph and Mary in various census records:

in 1880 census Texana was living in Shelby Co., AL with:  Robert G. Lockridge 42 Ala Ala Ala all; Mary A. E. wife 38; John W. 11; James J 6; Thomas K 3; Mary A. 1; Texana Wilson WF 25 cousin, single;

in 1880 George is living with John Wilson and wife Margaret and their family #160/160 in Lexington, Dist 49, Dallas Co, Ala.  John Wilson WM 33 all Ala Ala Ala; Margaret 26 wife; Lela 5 dau; Johnnie 3 son; Georgia 1 dau; George WM 16 cousin; and a black servant, Lizzie Hazlet 13;

Take care and will talk again.  Much love to you and yours, Your cousin, Jo

John,
Have just found an interesting item that I would like you to consider and see if you can figure this out.  After looking for Joseph and Mary's kids in 1880, I have found all of them (listed here, immediately above) but not Mary, until this a.m.  Now I find a Mary Wilson, age 46 widow, living with :  L. C. Bassett 52 SC SC SC; M. R. dau 30 Ala Eng SC; H. B. son 23 or 25 Ala Eng SC; John son 21 Ala Eng SC; Mary Wilson sister 46 Widow Ala SC SC and Roberson, Lee 20 boarder Al Al Il.  The age is right for Joseph's wife, the widowhood is right - could this not be our Mary????   The info on location/date is Selma, Ward 3 in the County of Dallas, Ala on the 2nd day of June 1880, family # 49, and can't read the street name on my copy here, but starts with an H. Page 6B, ED73. It is wonderful to find things and be able to share them with you.

More later,
Love,
in His light,
Jo
Jo, YES!  I agree--good job!  Here's this last in table form:

Sallie 25 cousin [But Jo wrote 1 Oct 2004 saying that this relationship is SISTER, not cousin.] AL AL AL I could find no child of one of N. B. Wilson's kids named Sarah or Sally on my Wilson.hrm. page. It is possible that Sallie could be a cousin through the Cranford side, but I'm doubting that because her last name here is listed as Wilson.  There is a possibility, too--and this seems most plausible to me--that the census taker misunderstood or miswrote the word "sister" as "cousin"--or perhaps even heard Rubin say, "She's my cousin"--and that this is Sarah "Sally" Jane Wilson, daughter of John Jones Wilson and therefore first cousin to Rubin Wilson. Again, the age is about right.

Hi John-- I have found the children of Joseph and Mary in various census records:

1850 Census, Dallas Co, Ala, Joseph is living with sister RoseAnn and her husband and dau.  He is age 20, b. in Ala, Carpenter.

1860 - Dallas Co, Cahawba Twn, pg 955, 7th Aug, family #592/586:  Wilson, J. A., 29, Carpenter, b. in Ala;  Mary E. 24, b. Ala; William H. 7, M, Texana 4, F, Reubin 2, M, all b. Ala.

1870 - Dallas Co, Cahawba Town, pg 377 26th July, Mary Wilson is 35, F, inmate of poor house with 2 sons, Rubin, 12, and George, 9.  Did Joseph die in the Civil War?  Why didn't some of the sibs of Joseph take in Mary and the 2 youngest children??  Texana is living with the Gwin family (whom her father had lived with before he married her mother); William was living with Ezekiel M. and family.  In 1776 William has removed to Faulkner Co, AR--was other family already there?

1880 census Texana was living in Shelby County, Ala with:  Robert G. Lockridge 42 Ala, Ala, Ala, all; Mary A. E. wife 38; John W., 11; James J, 6; Thomas K, 3; Mary A., 1; Texana Wilson, W, F, 25, cousin, single.

In  1880 Lexington, Dallas Co, Ala #426/426,  Wilson, Robbert, W, M, 34, Ala, Ala, Ala, (all); Harriett, 32, wife; Osborn, 30, Brother; Rubin, 21, cousin; Wesley, 32, Preacher, (no relation given) Susan, W, F, 35, widow, Ala, GA, GA; Sallie, W, F, 26, Sister, Al, Al, Al, and Cranford, Sa---- , W, F, 48, mom-in-law, Ala, GA, GA, (Saphronia?)

In 1880 George is living with John Wilson and wife Margaret and their family, #160/160, in Lexington, Dist 49, Dallas Co, Ala.  John Wilson, W, M, 33, all Ala, Ala, Ala; Margaret , 26, wife; Lela, 5, dau; Johnnie, 3, son; Georgia, 1, dau; George, W, M, 16, cousin; and a black servant, Lizzie Hazlet, 13.

Take care and will talk again.

Much love to you and yours,
Your cousin,
Jo

Good evening John,

Just a quick message to tell you I have found Texana in 1900 census

1900 5 June, Wilsonville, Shelby County, Pre. 9; #64/64
Pope, John F, Aug1853, 46 M 19 Al Al Al all;
Jamile? K. Pope, wife Apr 1860 40 M 19 ch: 7/5;
Purnisa A. Pope dau Aug 1882 17;
Leon C. Pope son Aug 1885 14;
Elgin? J. Pope son Aug 1888 11;
Frank  Pope, Dec 1890 9;
Mildred W. Pope dau Aug 1897 2;
Louise Pope dau Nov 1899 6/12;
Texana Wilson, WF  Sept 1854 45 Single
- there are black servants listed as well; Williams and Woods surnames.

Also, Williams S. Gwin and family and the next one is listed as
Rebecca but I think it is RoseAnn C. Wilson Gwin.

1900 is Rebecca C. Gwin, living as HOH next door to William S. Gwin.  She is Aug 1822 77 widow 10/3 Al Al Al.  This could be Rose Ann C. Wilson Gwin.
These are on the first pg of Wilsonville Census, Shelby Co, Ala, Prec. 9.

1900 Census, Wilsonville, Ala Shelby County - Precinct 9 family 6/6 is
William S. Gwin June 1848 51 M32 Ala; Ala; Ala;

Jo Goodwin sent me a list of all the legibly marked graves in the Beebe Cemetery.  I looked through it and have posted here all the Wilsons, though I don't recognize any of them yet.  Other last names may be posted when I recognize them as relatives' names. Civil War era dates and earlier are highlighted in red.

Hi John,

Well, lunch time is providing me with ever so much new family information!
I think I have found Reubin/Rubin/Ruben etc., Joseph and Mary's son.
In the 1900 Wilsonville, Shelby Co census,
#87 is Isham Gwin and family,
In the 1900 Wilsonville, Shelby Co census #95/95 is
Wilson, Rubin N July 1858 41 M14 - all are Ala Ala Ala;
Martha J. Dec 1860 39 M14 9/8 children;
Annie E. dau Oct 1885 14;
Joseph I or J am not really sure at all, Apr 1887 13;
Nettie R dau Nov 1888 11;
Loula M dau May 1890 10;
Rosie L. dau Nov 1891 8;
Minnie D dau Nov 1893 6;
Mattie K dau Oct 1895 4;
Rubie dau Oct 1897 2 and
Crawford, Elizabeth, mother in law, Dec 1829 71 Widow 8/3 ch; Ala NC SC.
Could the N in his name be Nathaniel for his grandfather??  Could this Nettie be the one you were discussing in the photo album??
When you have the pictures scanned in etc, would it be possible to have you send me a set so I can print them off and frame them for my "ancestor wall"?  I have various walls in the house covered with pictures - one for the grandbabies, one for my dad's mother's side, one for his father's side and now I can have one for my mom's mother's side too.  I have a few of her father's side but not many, but with the Wilson's, it will fill a wall, I'm sure.
Let me know what you think about this Rubin.
Your excited cousin!
(As if you couldn't tell)

Jo

Hi John,
Can't you imagine my excitement, I can hardly type!
1920 Shelby Co census:  Precinct #9 N Southern RR; Wilsonville 1-9 Jan family#64, image 6 of 26 in Ancestry has

Wilson, Rufus N. 61 M Al Al SC;
Martha J wife 57 Al Al Al (all rest)
Mattie K dau 21;
Rubie F dau 19;
Texana sister 64 S Al Al Al.
There are two obvious errors here I think with Rufus instead of Rubin and Al Al Al for Texana.  But, she is found!  Now to find George or his family.
More later; lunch time is over, but couldn't quit until I completed this.
Much love,

Hi John - have been doing some research at work and didn't have access to other resources to see if you already have this info so will send it just in case you don't.  I have found the children of Joseph and Mary in various census records and some of what I believe to be Ezekiel Monroe's family members:

1860 - Dallas Co, Cahawba Twn, pg 955, 7th Aug, family #592/586:
Wilson, J. A. 29 Carpenter, Ala;  Mary E. 24 Ala; William H. 7M , Texana 4F, Reubin 2M all Ala.

1870 - Dallas Co, Cahawba Town, pg 377 26th July, Mary Wilson is 35 F inmate of poor house with 2 sons, Rubin 12 and George 9.

1880 census Texana was living in Shelby County, Ala with:
Robert G. Lockridge 42 Ala Ala Ala all;
Mary A. E. wife 38;
John W. 11;
James J 6;
Thomas K 3;
Mary A. 1;
Texana Wilson WF 25 cousin, single.

In  1880 Lexington, Dallas Co, Ala #426/426
Wilson, Robbert W M 34 Ala Ala Ala (all);
Harriett 32 wife;
Osborn 30 Brother;
Rubin 21 cousin;
Wesley 32 Preacher (no relation given)
Susan WF 35 widow Ala GA GA;
Sallie WF 26
Sister Al Al Al and
Cranford, Sa---- WF 48 mom-in-law Ala GA GA (Saphronia?)

In 1880 George is living with John Wilson and wife Margaret and their family #160/160 in Lexington, Dist 49, Dallas Co, Ala.
John Wilson WM 33 all Ala Ala Ala;
Margaret 26 wife;
Lela 5 dau;

(This shows that the 1920 Rufus and the 1910 family Ruffers are the same and they are Rubin, brother of Texana and son of Joseph.)

According to father's will, Ezekiel Monroe Wilson was in Arkansas by 1874, Pulaski, White Co. Have not found in 1880 census as of 18 Oct 2003. However, I did find record of a marriage for E. M. Wilson, 52 to R. C. Williams 45 on 31 Oct 1878 in Lonoke/Pulaski Co, AR. Marriage records.  This could be Ezekiel Monroe Wilson's 2nd marriage.

Robert L. was age 4 in 1870 Dallas Co, Ala census; 1870 Selma Township, Pences PO #126/129 1910 - Ward Township, Lonoke Co, AR 3 May #258/264

Have more but this is enough for this time - must go.

No real update on Joshua - he is having chemo regularly and experiencing the side effects of same as expected.  Will keep you updated.  I have been declared "cured" and claim the same for Joshua's outcome.

Take care and will talk again.

Much love to you and yours,
Your cousin,
Jo

Subject: Information on Joseph Wilson/Mary High Family Page

Hello to all my extended family!

I am Danny Lane Dunn, Jr.  Owen Lois Dunn and Blyss Dunn were my grandparents.  I am the son of Danny Lane Dunn, Sr. and Mary Stark.

First of all, I wanted to give you an update on my birthday and that of my brother, Ricky.  My date of birth is March 5, 1966.  Ricky Lynn Dunn was born on July 13, 1967.  We were both born and raised in Searcy, Arkansas (White County).

Second of all, I wanted to give a little background on myself.  I don't know how much you want or anything, so I'll wait until I hear back from one of ya'll to give you that info.  I've been in the Army, married, etc.

Third, I want to thank everyone who has put information in here on the family.  I've been wondering about my ancestors for years.  Thanks to everyone who has spent what I am sure are countless hours searching for this information.

Love to all the family...
Dan Dunn
