Champion Guinn

Kathy, you have quite a collection of data here! Thank you for sending it. I wish that we could connect it to our data--maybe we can soon! Please pardon my hodge-podge collection of our different contacts. I know there is a lot of repetition and overlap, but I'm slowly getting it all formatted and cleaned up. Meanwhile, keep sending things as you come across them! :-)

There are some loose court records in Winchester, TN, I need to check out. This might tell me something, if some were adopted, etc. I think (not 100%) sure my direct line. I think he was either dad or grandad of my Elias Henderson Guinn who was in CSA cavalry.
I was told my line was John Talley Guinn b. 1726 ??, John
Guinn b. 1800, Elious Henderson and down the line.
Unless
Sally who lived alone in Lincoln Co was John's wife and he either left
or died I think Champion is the dad because he moved with the other
Guinns.
Thanks
Kathy

Subject: Isham
Do you think your Isham is the same one in Lincoln Co., TN 1820 Census? Where was yours in 1820? What were some other names listed with him?
Kathy, my Isham Gwin was already in Indiana by 1820. He had owned 249 acres of land in Crowson's Cove, (also known as the Wear Valley) in Sevier Co., TN, and had kept slaves to run it. But he hated slavery and preached against it (he was a Baptist preacher), and finally he freed his own slaves, sold his land, and moved to Harrison Co., IN, because it was a free state and there would be no slavery. Of course, his wife Mary and many of their own children and their families moved with him--Polly and her her husband Tom Walker, Elizabeth and her husband David Denton, Virginia Jane and her husband Mr. Tipton, and all of his younger, unmarried children: Richard W., Nancy, Sarah, and Manerva, all four of whom would marry in Indiana. But at least two (and we think probably three) of his other children evidently disagreed with their father and moved to Alabama so they could keep slaves--for sure William and his wife Susanah and John and his wife Jane, but we think a son Chesley, also.Is he related to James, John, Daniel and William in Green Co., TN 1800?The bottom line, then, is that your Isham of Lincoln Co., TN, and my Isham are--and have to be--two different people.
John
While there was a
Sally 16-26 F, a
Champion 2 16-26 Males and other males no females.,
Daniel oldest male 16-26 with one female 1 F 16-26 and one
female
45 and over, and
Isham 3 M under 10, 1 M 26-45 and 2 F under 10, 1, 10-16 and
1 F 26-45, and
William16-26 with wife and kids.
I wonder how all these connect----there was one
Daniel1820 already in Franklin Co., 1 M and 1 F 16-26
and also
Elias 1 M Und 10 and l male and 1 female 16-26.
I wonder if this
Daniel was in Lincoln for census, mother or mother-in-law died,
he moved to Franklin and census taker took his name again??
This Champion would probably have to be the son of the Champion in Burke/Wilkes Co., NC, Washington Co., TN. since he was was married and had son by 1787. Maybe Isham was his oldest and then the others his younger ones.
Any ideas??

There were/are many of us! :-)The old man from Trion said the John T. Guinn had a brother Claypool who moved to KY. I do not know how he knows that. Elias Henderson had a brother Wm who was a blacksmith in Jackson Co., AL during Civil War.
I saw your info about Ishan/Isom Guinn. I have been trying to
find Champion
Guinn's family, he was b. probably NC/TN in about 1760-70 as he m.
Dorcas
Williams in Wilkes/Burke Co., NC later Washington Co., TN then later
another
county because of boundary changes. Later he was in Franklin Co.,
TN about
1830-50 I forgot. Then his family was in Jackson Co., AL. Your
info had
a Champe Carter McCulloch in it. Could he have been named from
him? I
also am looking for John Guinn who I was told was my direct line but I
am having trouble finding him. Could Champion be a
nickname? Any help appreciated.
Kathy Guinn Edwards
Hi,
It's me again. Champion had a son/grandson (hard to tell for
sure)
Elious/Elias Henderson Guinn/Guin. Elias had a brother William
Guin who
came from VA and was a blacksmith. They lived in Stevenson, AL in
about
1860-80 maybe.
Any info appreciated. The Guinns not only are mixed up I think
but
spell name so many ways.
Isham Guin see Lincoln Co., TN 1820
He was oldest. Listed was Sally, Daniel, Champion, William, maybe
others. He was 26-45 I think and all the others 16-26.
Wonder if Sally
was a widow and John was her husband or John left her?? Maybe in army??
Also looking for Magills of PA. I think my ggggrandad??
Charles Magill/McGill Hunter's mother was Dorcas McGill and his dad
William Hunter. Trying to find out without any luck.
I think Gwinns/Guinns mostly came from VA.
Isham Gwinn 1750 Montgomery Co., VA i had written in my miscellaneous
notes. Not sure where I got that though.
If your Isham, Lincoln Co., TN is related to my Champion why do you
think they went separate directions?? My Champion to Franklin
Co.,
TN. William Guinn was in Stevenson, Jackson Co., also
see"Stevenson
Story". He was a blacksmith from VA.
Kathy
Kathy, I'm just guessing that they are related. If they are, I believe they are several generations apart. Perhaps my Isham is a second, third, or even more distantcousin to yours. John
I would like to have any info. on Champion you have. He had a
son Charles Champion I think.
You can find "The Stevenson Story' in the Jackson Co. Library, may
be called "Scottsboro Library"
and probably get it on loan. It does not have much about Guinns
that I recall except to say William Guinn from Stevenson was a
blacksmith
from VA.
My relative, now dec'd many years, said his granddad told him
stories
of his grandad and william hiding behind a rock wall from the gunfire
from
civil war.
Isham is found in 1820 Lincoln Co., TN Census. Also Champion,
Daniel, Sally and others.
Champion was reported to be married to Dorcas Williams in Burke/Wilkes
Co., NC 1787 which was also Washington Co., TN. He endentured his
son Charles (mulatto) probably melungeon to Richard Calloway and
Rebekah
Hutson 1791 until age 18. Later Champ was in Carter 1798
then
Franklin Co., TN 1830
Thanks,
Kathy

Would also like to know who Polly Guinn md Issac Blanton Dec. 27, 1821 in Mogan Co., AL Was she kin to these. I think her name was Mary "Polly"
Also who are these Guins:
Wm. Guin wills to sons John and Wm. all lands to be divided between them, land adjoins Elijah Guin to fence that divides my land from John Guin's and the son's to take their mother to live with one or the other of them and both support her. Champion Guinn in Burke/Wilkes Co. NC 1787 when he was md. to Dorcas
Williams.
Had son Charles listed as mulatto (probably melungeon) to a Richard
Calloway. They seemed to move to the same location that Richard
moved
to. 1798 Champ in Carter Co Tax List I think.
1820 in Lincoln Co., TN along with Daniel, Isham, Sally, William and
others. and in 1830 in Franklin Co, TN and then to Jackson Co., AL.
with
William a blacksmith from VA.
There are some loose court records in Winchester TN I need to check
out. This might tell me something, if some were adopted
etc.
I think (not 100%) sure my direct line. I think he was either dad
or grandad of my Elious Henderson Guinn who was in CSA cavalry.
I was told my line was John Talley Guinn b. 1726 ??, John Guinn b.
1800, Elious Henderson and down the line. Unless Sally who lived

Champion is the dad because he moved with the other Guinns.

I think Gwinns/Guinns mostly came from VA.
Isham Gwinn 1750 Montgomery Co., VA i had written in my

Hi, Kathy!
Good to hear from you--you raise some interesting questions.
I believe (but cannot prove!) that all these Gwins--of every spelling--are related. Of course they all are, but I mean on THIS side of the Atlantic! :-)I think I have your info on Champion, but I'm not sure I have your info on this William. Where can I find the "Stevenson Story"?

Isham is found in 1820 Lincoln Co., TN Census. Also Champion,
Daniel, Sally and others.
Champion was reported to be md to Dorcas Williams Burke/Wilkes Co.,
NC 1787 which was also Washington Co., TN. He endentured his son
Charles (mulatto) probably melungeon to Richard Calloway and Rebekah
Hutson
1791 until age 18. Later Champ was in Carter 1798 then
Franklin
Co., TN 1830
Thanks,
Kathy
From: John Gwin <jmcdgwin@zianet.com>If your Isham, Lincoln Co., TN is related to my Champion why do you think they went separate directions?? My Champion to Franklin Co., TN. William Guinn was in Stevenson, Jackson Co., also see"Stevenson Story". He was a blacksmith from VA.

Kathy, I thought I had the info on your Champion G. listed in my collection of as-of-yet-unrelated Gwins--but I can't find it! Can you please send me again what you have on him?
Thanks! :-)

Isham Guinn is in Lincoln Co., TN, in 1820 with Champion,
Daniel, William and Sally. He has some young kids and his age was
26
to 45. Would this be the right age??
Is this the same Isham or have you any knowledge of these people?
In Franklin Co, TN, and Jackson Co., AL, later I think. I am
almost sure
William Guinn in Jackson Co., AL 1850-60 was from VA.
I saw your info about Isham/Isom Guinn.
I have been trying to find Champion Guinn's family, he was b. probably NC/TN in about 1760-70 as he md Dorcus Williams in Wilkes/Burke Co., NC later Washington Co., TN then later another county because of boundary changes.
Later he was in Franklin Co., TN about 1830-50 I forgot.
Then his family was in Jackson Co., AL.
Your info had a Champe Carter McCulloch in it.
Could he have been named from him.
I also am looking for John Guinn who I was told was my direct lin but I am having trouble finding him.
Could Champion be a nickname?
Champion had a son/grandson (hard to tell for sure) Elious/Elias Henderson Guinn/Guin.
Elias had a brother William Guin who came from VA and was a blacksmith.
They lived in Stevenson, AL in about 1860-80 maybe.
Any info appreciated. The Guinns not only are mixed up I think but spell name so many ways.
