In this book,
a soldier that finished his 20 years in the army is given land as a good-bye
gift. Of course, it's Asterix' village. He sells it to a bartender for
some drinks, and the bartender takes his family out there. They are suprised
to find the village is inhabited, and they had been tricked: The land never
belonged to anyone but the people of the village! They decide to just move
into the empty inn there. Lots of things follow: The bartender's wife is
so mad at Impedimenta, she makes her husband run against Vitalstatistix
for chief; Obelix tries his best to impress Zaza, the daughter of the bartender;
Romans attack the village, and that's not the half of it! |

from the evil Guru. They get there using an Indian Fakir's magic
carpet. They only have one way to save the Princess: Rain must pour on
the dry land. Back home, Cacafonix sings badly enough that the gods in
Gaul get mad at him and make it rain. If Cacofonix gets the gods angry
in India surely they will make it rain, too... right? |

The Indominitable
Gauls fight the oldest battle of all.
The battle of the sexes
comes to the village of our hero Asterix. When a new female bard shows
up in the village, the chaos begins... Soon the men and women of the village
are divided, Asterix is banished, and to top things off, Rome has cooked
up a new plot to bring the village to heel (but that would be telling...).
This is a classical romp of how stupid both genders can be, but can pull
together when the need arises. Watch the Roman who cooks up the "Secret
Weapon" get the pasting he so richly deserves in true slapstick style... |

A nice addition
to the best comic adventure series in the world.
Albert Uderzo shows that
he has the ability as a writer, as well as a master illustrator. Although
we have to agree that it is impossible for anyone to replace the late Rene
de Goscinny, Uderzo does a great job of continuing the adventures. |
