delwilliams@insightbb.comAlthough our family names are WILLIAMS, SNEED, and GREEN, we are most truly all descended from one THOMAS GREEN, born into slavery about 1760 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Thomas was the probably beloved son of his slaveowners' son, SAMUEL WILLIAMS and the slave CUASE, later changed to CRESE. Crese and Samuel apparently originally became involved during the time he was living at home with his parents, SAMUEL & ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, wealthy landowners living in what was then Edgecombe County, North Carolina. When Samuel Sr. died in 1753, his wife inherited his property, including Crese, and he left a large tract of land to to his son, Samuel. Elizabeth Williams remarried a few years later, and turned over ownership of Crese and her young son, Tom, to her son, Samuel Jr. It was very apparent that Samuel had a great fondness for Crese and Tom because he never married during a time in history when the most important thing to a man was marrying and having heirs to pass their wealth and property on to. You can see for yourself how all of our family today sprang from this brave and honorable man who lived free in an era when most of our brethren were enslaved, even those who only had a smidgen of black in them. You will realize that only through sheer coincidence that our WILLIAMS ancestors, our Great Grandpa HUBBARD WILLIAMS, also sprang from that very same WILLIAMS family since he was a slave of the nephews of Samuel Williams. And how ironic it is that all of that land that our Thomas Green was given by his father upon his death in 1791, remains in the family to this day and is called Greentown.
