The Justice Society of America
JSA: Justice Be Done
by James Robinson, David S. Goyer, Steve Sadowski,
& Geoff Johns
Paperback: 144 pages
DC Comics
ISBN: 1563896206
$14.95
Capitalizing on the popularity of the JLA, DC at last managed to pull off a successful revival of the Justice Society, the first super-team in comics. Part of the credit also belongs to James Robinson, the author of the excellent Starman series, and to the fact that the ugly continuity problems that plagued many earlier attempts at revival have been sorted out to a more or less stable, if not always satisfactory, degree. Robinson settles the question of membership (over 20 potential members of the team existed) by killing off several possible candidates, but I think the members he chose are the best ones.
The plots and characterization are excellent, as usual for Robinson. It is best if you have some familiarity with the characters, but at any rate, don't miss this series!

A Super-Hero Apocalypse

Writer Mark Waid, coming from his popular work on Flash and Impulse, and artist Alex Ross, who broke new ground with the beautifully painted MARVELS, join together for this explosive book that takes place in a dark alternate future of the DC Superhero Universe.

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and almost every other character from DC Comics must choose sides in what could be the final battle of them all. It's the early 21st century. Without the guidance and values championed by the old guard--Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman--a younger generation of super heroes is ravaging the world. "Kingdom Come" is the story of what defines a hero in a world spinning inexorably out of control, and of the final battle that could determine the fate of our planet.
