Maxey - Broking Discussion
A Critical Review and Defense of
Down, But Not Out

The following exchange, which took place over a period of nine months, was a discussion between two Ministers of the Gospel concerning vital issues relevant to marriage, divorce and remarriage. The participants are DARRELL BROKING (Minister for the Mountain City Church of Christ in Mountain City, TN --- pictured above left) and AL MAXEY (Pulpit Minister & an Elder for the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ in Alamogordo, NM --- pictured above right), who is also the owner of the BereanSpirit List, an Internet/e-mail discussion list consisting of 550 Christian men and women from all over the world.

Specifically, this in-depth discussion consists of a critical review by Darrell Broking of Al Maxey's book Down, But Not Out, and the latter's defense of that work. It was published in full on the EGHhelps List, an E-Groups Internet/e-mail discussion list owned by Broking, and which consists of about 171 persons from the ultra conservative wing of the churches of Christ. Further, it was being published in successive issues of Broking's monthly publication The Christian Polemic, but that practice was dropped several months ago by Broking with no warning or explanation.

The discussion ended very suddenly, though not too unexpectedly, when Darrell Broking chose not to participate any further. It will be left to the readers to determine whose interpretations and teachings are more in keeping with God's Word, and which participant best conveyed the Truth with respect to marriage, divorce and remarriage.
